POSITION SUMMARY

Provides acute health care services as defined by ORS 677 and OAR847-050-0005 to 847-050-0065 for Cardiology patients. Service includes but are not limited to include the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with cardiovascular issues including coronary artery disease, heart rhythm disorders, high cholesterol, hypertension and congestive heart failure and performance / supervision of cardiac stress tests.

Additional responsibilities may include admitting / discharging patients; rounding with the attending physician (may be a combination of formal rounds and abbreviated rounds);

writing of daily notes and orders; coordinating with consulting teams and procedural staff as needed; working closely with nurses, pharmacy staff, case managers and social workers to ensure safe and effective medical management and discharge planning.

All services provided by a physician assistant shall be performed under the supervision of a physician supervisor. A supervising physician is the physician (M.

D. or D.O.) who provides direction and regular review of the medical services provided by the PA as set forth in the Practice Description and approved by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.

Performed majority of the time :

  • Inpatient and outpatient evaluation and management of patients with various cardiovascular disorders
  • Management of patients pre and post procedures
  • Assists in generation of order sets and other tools to facilitate best practices
  • Performance and supervision of cardiac stress tests
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of team members (faculty / physicians, APPs, RN, MA, researchers) and other members of the Cardiology team and other care providers and coordinators to provide excellent team based care
  • Performs and documents assessments and data collection in an ongoing, timely, accurate, concise and systematic manner.
  • Delegates and coordinates tasks and duties of the healthcare team.
  • Promotes accident prevention and reports potential safety hazards.
  • Renders all services promptly and diligently in accordance with professional and ethical standards of the medical community in which the APP practices.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job :

Adapts care to accommodate unexpected changes in patient status.

Graduate from a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner training program.

Prior APP and Cardiology experience. Prior Cardiac Device experience.

Licenses, Certifications, and / or Registrations :

Required :

  • Current Oregon Board of Medical Examiners, unencumbered Physician Assistant or Oregon State Board of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner License.
  • Fulfills requirements of hospital medical staff credentialing process.
  • Maintains active staff membership in good standing with the medical staff of the hospital with all privileges and responsibilities accorded such membership.
