Instrument Tracking and Sterile Processing Training Coordinator
Job Description
Provides education and training to new hires and existing staff. Is responsible for continuing education that promotes best practices in the department.
Oversees Instrument Tracking Software for the department. Is the instrument tracking software expert for user modifications, inventory, reporting, and upgrades.
Works closely with supervisors, and instrument specialists to improve department performance in quality and production.
Responsibilities
Coordinates onboarding and continuing education for all staff :
- Familiarize staff to departmental and hospital standards
- Provide departmental competencies and maintain record keeping for staff
- Schedule in-services to provide continuing education for staff
- Assist with HealthStreams and other new hire requirements
Department Education :
- The Educator will develop and organize educational content and curriculum, implement, conduct, and enforce training programs for all department staff members
- Guides direct and counsels orientees regarding work performance
- Trains preceptors and coordinates programs for each functional area of the department.
- Update skill lists on all employees as new training is received.
- Administers skill-based competency tests
Instrument Tracking Software :
- Directs the overall activities of the Microsystem Instrument Tracking System (SPM).
- Directs the overall activities ensuring all surgical trays are properly labeled and instruments identified within the SPM
- Photographs instrumentation and trays, and assures photos of instruments and trays are posted in the database to assist with accurate assembly of the trays
- Works with surgical coordinators, Instrument Specialists, and other members of the health care team, to evaluate, modify and implement changes to surgical procedural trays
- Provides monthly activity reports from SPM to the Director. Reports include Employee Productivity, General Inventory Throughput, Implementation Status, and PAR Levels
- Supports departmental quality improvement programs and assists with overseeing statistical information for projects as needed
- Evaluates Bar Coding System policies and procedures at departmental level. Revises as necessary for compatibility with current technology
Other :
- Create reports and provide data to improve overall department performance
- Understands and enforces guidelines recommended by AMMI, CDC, OSHA, FDA and JCAHO
- May represent SPD on various committee’s or groups throughout the organization
- Assists with other duties as departmental needs change
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :
EDUCATION :
Surgical Technologist Graduate from an Accredited College
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE :
- 5 or more years of Central Sterile Processing experience (Required).
- 2 years of experience as an Educator or equivalent Sterile Processing management
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE :
- Ability to plan and make effective use of time.
- Able to effectively instruct others, knowledgeable of human anatomy and understands a sterile OR room set up.
- Knowledgeable of surgical instrumentation.
- Reporting and Database knowledge of Microsystems SPM software, Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word
LICENSES REGISTRATIONS & / or CERTIFICATIONS :
Certified Surgical Technologist preferred, Sterile Processing Tech Certificate required
CIS, CHL preferred
