SPEECH / LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tennessee License in Speech / Language Pathology through Tennessee Department of Education; Prefer Certification Clinical Competencies (CCCs)
  • Master’s degree
  • Ability to communicate with students, school personnel
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to administer, score, and interpret speech / language assessments
  • Ability to demonstrate effective behavioral and management techniques
  • FLSA exempt

REPORTS TO Supervisor of Special Populations

JOB GOAL To provide speech and language services to students with disabilities to minimize the adverse impact of speech and language delays on student progress.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assesses students’ communication skills (e.g., articulation, language, voice, etc.) for the purpose of identifying communication disorders, determining eligibility, and providing recommendations for placement
  • Coordinates IEP meetings for eligible students with parents, teachers, and students for the purpose of presenting evaluation results and developing plans
  • Maintains all special education paperwork in a timely manner including instructionally appropriate Individual Educational Programs (IAIEPs), reevaluation summary, student progress reports, student census and annual yearly progress data
  • Consults with parents, administrators, school psychologist and other professionals in order to develop IAIEPs
  • Instructs and develops daily lesson plans as prescribed in the IAIEPs from PLEPs and goals
  • Collaborates with a variety of groups and / or individuals for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues, and providing services in compliance with established guidelines
  • Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (i.e., hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.

Maintains files and / or records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, treatment plans, required documentation, screening results, etc.

for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and / or compliance

Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.

for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students’ needs
