The Assistant Director of Community Support and Standards supports the mission and values of Marymount Manhattan College, through the functions of Student Life. This position serves as the primary conduct officer for the Code of Conduct and provides leadership and oversight for matters pertaining to student conduct and community standards, managing the conduct process, and providing case management. This position will collaborate with staff across the College to offer a robust and thoughtful student support system. The incumbent will have a broad knowledge of campus resources as well as detailed knowledge of campus operations, student life, programs, and services available through the College.

Salary Range : $63,000 to $70,000

Community Support and Standards

  • Manage a conduct process for the campus that incorporates all necessary stakeholders and needed offices.
  • Monitor and maintain the data and information regarding student conduct and community standards that provides ability to analyze and assess future planning and strategy.
  • Assign appropriate conduct sanctions, up to and including suspension and expulsions, that appropriately address the violation and / or harm caused to the community.
  • Serve as a collaborator and / or final appeals officer for Residence Life petitions or conduct cases as needed.
  • Make appropriate referrals for students of concern.
  • Produce and maintain detailed and accurate records and correspondence relating to conduct cases.
  • Communicate with parents, affected parties, witnesses, complainants, and administration / staff regarding the conduct process, as appropriate.

Case Management

  • Serve as the point person for student concerns and crises; triage and identify the student’s core issues in order to timely streamline issue resolution; this may include identifying appropriate interventions for students at-risk.
  • Offer guidance, assistance, and support to students at a variety of levels, ranging from resource referral to resolving personal conflicts that impact their student experience.
  • Proactively identify and / or outreach to offer support to students of concern through one-on-one communication.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with offices and functional areas and be able to organize resources and effectively support in response to student needs.
  • For visiting students, serve as the primary point of contact with home institutions regarding student concerns.
  • Possess a robust comprehension of College policies, including visiting students’ home institution policies, and program-specific policies to maximize student success.
  • Assist students with conflict resolution.
  • Serve as a point of contact for parent / family / guardian concerns; when appropriate, work with parents, families, guardians, and / or advocates to ensure student success.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Visiting Programs to support visiting groups, serving as a back-up in their absence.
  • Support Student Life operations throughout the year.
  • Serve as part of the College’s Title IX team.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality and privacy of the students and division by exercising discretion in communicating information to faculty, students, and staff, and in the handling of administrative records, files, and confidential information.
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualification

  • Knowledge and skills required for this position are normally acquired through a Master's Degree in higher education / student affairs or equivalent plus at least 2 to 3 years experience within Residence Life, Student Conduct, or another Student Life-related department
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven collaboration and team-building skills.
  • Sound judgement and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Successfully combine hard (e.g. technical knowledge, critical and analytical thinking, problem solving) and soft skills (e.g. people skills, communication, such as active listening, interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships, teamwork, emotional intelligence, collaboration / conflict management) to meet position requirements.
