Overview

Job Title : System Engineer

BUSINESS UNIT : Shared Services

FUNCTION : Internal Technology Group

REPORT TO : Director of Technology

CLASSIFICATION : Exempt

LOCATION : Cedar Rapids, IA

EDUCATION : Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Information Technology or related field

EXPERIENCE : 5+ years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

Cybersecurity

  • Implement best practices for cybersecurity, compliance, and disaster recovery to safeguard sensitive data and ensure business continuity
  • Regularly review information security platforms and respond to security incidents
  • Implement and manage security protocols, firewalls, and access controls
  • Document cybersecurity controls, system configurations, processes, procedures, and assist with compliance efforts

Network Management

  • Integrate network equipment, endpoints, servers, and IOC devices in the various network and element management platforms
  • Monitor system performance, security, and availability to ensure high uptime and reliability
  • Troubleshoot system failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and end-users
  • Perform updates and patch management for all devices in the network
  • Infrastructure Automation and Scripting

  • Develop and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools to automate deployments and reduce manual work
  • Utilize all tools available to write and maintain scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to improve system efficiency and consistency
  • Endpoint Management

  • Manage and support laptops, desktops, and mobile devices across their lifecycle
  • Utilize endpoint management tools for updates, security compliance, and inventory tracking
  • Ensure device security hardening
  • Server Management

  • Deploy and support Windows and Linux platforms in physical and virtual environments
  • Manage server infrastructure through patches, upgrades, and the various tools identifying security vulnerabilities and performance issues
  • Manage various virtualization technologies for server implementation (VMware, XCP-ng, XenServer, Harvester)
  • Collaboration and Support

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy new software, applications, and updates
  • Assist with root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions for system failures
  • Maintain accurate documentation, configurations, changes, and procedures
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on our infrastructure and recommending strategic enhancements
  • Act as point of escalation for infrastructure items, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Respond to telephone calls, emails and tickets with professionalism and courtesy within established response guidelines
  • Enter time and expenses in CCR systems as they occur and submit for approval by the designated deadline
  • Manage performance to achieve expected results
  • Exemplify and promote CCR values
  • Follow client guidelines for access and safety protocols at client job sites
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Desirable Previous Experience

  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet
  • Knowledge / Experience with Linux Operating Systems (Ubuntu, RedHat)
  • Knowledge / Experience with Windows Operating Systems
  • Knowledge / Experience with SQL databases (MS SQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL)
  • Familiarity with networking & server virtualization technologies (e.g., XCP-ng, VMware, XenServer, Harvester)
  • Understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm)
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP / IP, DNS, VPNs, and firewalls
  • Familiarity with monitoring and management tools (e.g., N-central, Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds)
  • Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze complex systems and implement effective solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are a plus
