Streets Maintenance Worker

Performs highly responsible skilled and semi-skilled work involving the maintenance, repair, replacement, and improvement of City streets, alleyways, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, drainage ways, and related infrastructure. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Services Department Operations Manager.

Essential Job Functions :

• Operates heavy equipment such as loaders, dump trucks, and street maintenance machinery.
• Inspects and performs remediations of distressed asphalt, delamination, and utility cuts; applies fill materials (gravel, dirt, shell) and restores surfaces using asphalt as required. Coordinates with other divisions and outside agencies for resolution of utility cuts and restoration projects.
• Performs shell alleyway maintenance including excavating, scarifying, regrading, and compaction; performs soil density testing to ensure proper compaction.
• Utilizes thermo-striping and painting techniques to install, maintain, and improve roadway striping, intersection markings, and parking spaces.
• Inspects sidewalks, ADA ramps, and walkways for compliance; removes trip hazards through grinding or slab replacement.
• Designs and fabricates City signage using computers, printers, and plotters in accordance with MUTCD guidelines and other City standards.
• Installs and maintains City signs, including requesting utility locates and inspecting signage for reflectivity and defects.
• Designs, installs, and maintains temporary traffic control devices for minor construction projects; assists contractors and emergency operations with traffic control as needed.
• Performs debris removal from curbs, gutters, rights-of-way, and parking lots following storm events; assists the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office with debris removal after vehicular accidents.
• Assists utility maintenance divisions in locating sources of water from reclaimed, potable, or sanitary sewer main leaks, coordinates with internal and external agencies for repairs.
• Coordinates with the City Engineer and stormwater management staff for removal and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure.
• Performs vector control as required, coordinates with other agencies for mosquito, bee, and other pest or venomous species control.
• Coordinates with Pinellas County and volunteer wildlife agencies for rescue or care of injured animals, including sea turtles, from roadways or storm drains.
• Inspects outdoor lighting for compliance with turtle conservancy standards; coordinates with Duke Energy and private property owners to ensure compliance with Florida Fish and Wildlife regulations.
• Performs periodic inspections of streetlights, coordinates repairs and replacements with Duke Energy.
• Cross-trains and works with other departments including Stormwater, Parks & Recreation, Community Development, Fire, and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
• Creates and manages work orders in the work order management system using computers, tablets, and mobile devices; schedules equipment, materials, and personnel; documents completed work with photos, videos, and notes.
• Coordinates with the Operations Manager and City Engineer to document completed maintenance and repairs in the GIS system for Capital Improvement Program purposes.
• May be required to work outside normal hours during emergencies (e.g., strong storms, tornadoes, hurricanes).
• May be scheduled for on-call duty.
• Performs related tasks as required.

Emergency Response Status : As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees maybe required to work as directed during an undeclared and / or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. This is a condition of employment.
