Job Description

• Ensure accurate calibration, cleaning, and scheduled maintenance of clinical / lab equipment according to OSHA, DHEC, and UMA standards; maintain documentation of these activities.
• Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, ensuring effective communication as needed. Document test results and communicate the plan of care to patients, creating educational materials as necessary.
• Manage exam room supplies, instruments, and ensure a clean patient care environment in compliance with OSHA, DHEC, and UMA guidelines.
• Facilitate a smooth patient flow by assisting in scheduling appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability. Screen patients for relevant information and provide education related to diagnoses and treatments.
• Observe, record, and report on patients' physical and psychological conditions, as well as their responses to medications and treatments. Respond to and triage phone calls and process orders as directed by the physician. Instruct patients about their treatment and / or medications as ordered.
• Prepare patients for examination and procedures, assisting physicians as necessary. Educate patients on how to collect samples and tests, and administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.

Minimum Training and Education Required : High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with at least one year of patient care experience is preferred.

Required Licensure and Certifications : Must hold certification from one of the following organizations : American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA), National Association of Healthcare Professionals (NAHP), Medical Career Assessments (MedCA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Physical Requirements : This role involves standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. Candidates should be able to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, and reach in all directions. Must possess good finger dexterity and the ability to lift, lower, push, or carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted. Visual acuity must allow for recognition of objects near and far. This position may involve working in dusty areas and confined spaces.
