Research Investigator Lymphoma-Myeloma - Research

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Research Assistant II in Dr.

Michael Wang's lab. This is a full-time, hands-on research position. We are looking for highly motivated colleagues who can perform and coordinate research projects with minimal guidance from faculty.

Dr. Wang's lab is part of the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma, which is well funded through multiple funding mechanisms, including two NIH R01s and an R21, two CPRIT grants, and two Leukemia and Lymphoma Society grants.

Essential job functions

Research and design activities

  • Assist supervisor with scientific research projects.
  • Design and develop research projects, especially about cell and gene immunotherapy.
  • Apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, and carry out the projects.
  • Determine specific goals or objectives to be obtained and evaluate the research data.
  • Develop new techniques as needed.
  • Coordinate activities related to collection of research specimens obtained from cord blood, buffy coats, bone marrow aspirates, and biopsies.
  • Perform basic and preclinical research focused on new cell and gene therapies.
  • Oversee sample processing, data collection, and data analysis.
  • Perform independent data analysis.
  • Compiles, writes, and evaluates data, and submit results to PI in appropriate digital format.
  • Train junior staff in their work in selected technical areas.

Lab operations

  • Use research knowledge and expertise to perform immunotherapy research.
  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate the daily activity of the research group,
  • Show initiative in planning and executing experiments and evaluating and interpreting the results.
  • Prepare samples to be submitted to core labs for further analysis.
  • Participate deeply in the development and revision of techniques.
  • Assist the supervisor with the preparation of reports and grant requests.
  • Perform various experiments, especially including lymphocyte cell culture and immune therapy, animal injection and animal surgery, tissue processing, immunohistochemical staining, PCR, and flow cytometry.

EDUCATION :

Required : Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Preferred : Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE :

Required : Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
