Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for underrepresented students.

CDU is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Under direct supervision of the Department Chair and Program Director, the Program Coordinator performs overall structural support to the department and faculty members for the Social Science and Humanities Department. The PC II of Social Sciences and Humanities Department provides, schedules, and coordinates all General Education courses for the College of Science and Health, the College of Nursing, and the Post-Baccalaureate Leadership Program, and also oversees the Psychology Program. In addition, the position serves as Program Coordinator to the Psychology Program Director, faculty, and students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Manage and advise students in the Social Science and Humanities Department (General Education and Psychology Programs), including collaborating with the Student Services office to provide services to optimize the ability of students to succeed, g., tutorials, resource sharing, academic advising, and study strategies.
  • Manage and coordinate the scheduling of all General Education courses with multiple programs and departments, including College of Science and Health, and College of Nursing; and coordinate all Psychology Program courses.
  • Oversee, manage, and maintain student cohort and advising databases (PowerCampus), including student support documentation.
  • Compile, maintainn and update course textbook lists for General Education and the Psychology Program.
  • Prepare hiring and course assignment paperwork each semester for new and returning regular and adjunct faculty in Social Sciences and Humanities General Education and Psychology Programs.
  • Provide administrative support to faculty members in the Social Sciences and Humanities Department General Education and Psychology Programs, and handle projects as requested by the faculty members.
  • Handles inquiries (via phone, email, walk-in & online); Process incoming applications (online and walk-in); Ensure all admission requirements are met (collection of necessary documents)
  • Oversee and assist the Chair / Director with all related accreditation processes related to the program.
  • Perform strategic planning related to teaching projections, classroom scheduling, and equipment budgets;
  • Manage day-to-day administration of courses, websites, and databases; implementing and evaluating innovative changes to instructional technology, or related instructional development with faculty (e.g. ATI)
  • Complete travel reimbursements and supply orders for faculty members.
  • Maintain appointment calendars; schedule and coordinate meetings and facilities which may include travel and lodging arrangements.
  • Coordinate student-related events : applicant interviews, orientation, and information sessions.
  • Manage confidentiality and control access to sensitive information related to faculty, staff and students, include compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and other information and systems.
  • Serve as internal liaison resource for all students, faculty, Department Chair and Program Director.
  • Compose and produce business correspondence, reposts and related Collect and organize data and determine appropriate formats for displaying results. Execute special projects and monitor deadlines.
  • Assists and participates in CDU special events, such as the graduation ceremony and recruitment events for COSH.
  • Welcome new students, send new and existing student materials, and assist students in orientation and becoming acclimated to the program, university, and student life.
  • Assist with infrastructure of content design for the COSH Website.
  • Maintain department / faculty information for university dissemination, g., office hours, committee participation, department / program website, program announcements, etc.

Other Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Qualifications / Requirements :

    EDUCATION :

  • Regionally accredited Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE :

  • Three (3) years or more previous related training or experience
  • Previous experience with student services or admissions
  • KNOWLEDGE / ABILITY / SKILLS :

  • Have strong communication and customer service
  • PC literate with the ability to utilize the MS Office platform, including Word, Excel.
  • Have a positive and outgoing
  • Be detail oriented.
  • Be good at prioritizing and multitasking.
  • Ability to type 50wpm.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Good grammatical skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Compensation :

  • $70,000 annual salary
