Manufacturing Manager
Perform the daily operations of plants to ensure reliability and consistency on the production line. Includes Service Shops. Responsible for departmental operations planning / execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversight and management of front-line manufacturing employees. Typically managing hourly employee populations.
- A job at this level requires a people leader with ability to hire and develop talent. Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy / strategy.
- Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
- Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and / or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.
- Leading and communicating with assigned team to meet business objectives.
- Drive a culture of safety, quality, and integrity to meet customer expectations.
- Implement and operate to the GE Flight Deck.
- Coordinates daily Tier 5 Team Meetings and shift changes.
- Work closely with maintenance to ensure machines stay safely operational and PMs get performed as required.
- Schedule shop an allocate resources to meet customer demand.
- Own training matrix and ensure operators are cross trained. Drive flexible workforce.
- Drive improved flow thru cell. Collaborate with teams to minimize cycle.
- Support team in development of visual management standards.
- Ensure operators have necessary tooling and process sheets to ensure safety, quality, and productivity standards are met.
- Provide input to leadership team to support continuous improvement and investment strategies.
- Interpret CMM and inspection results and work with Quality, Engineering, and Shop Ops to drive process improvement
- Drive flow of product through inspection while maintaining quality and process control
- Prioritize jobs based on customer need
- Provide input on future Capital Expense needs to improve quality and flow
- Train operators and insure a flexible workforce
- Implement Flight Deck into assigned processes
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in Manufacturing).3 years additional experience in inspection / CMM or Production Process SupervisionDesired Characteristics
