    • Incentives Include :

    • Take home vehicle. Must live within 25 miles of the city limits of Longmont.
    • Duty Firearm will be provided. Additionally, interest-free loans are available for future weapons purchases.
    • All uniform, belts, holsters, and other equipment, including ballistic body armor and plates, with the exception of footwear, is provided. Ballistic armor is replaced every five years at no cost to the employee. Officers also receive a biannual equipment allowance of $200 ($400 yearly).
    • Spanish / English bilingual skills are desirable. Supplemental pay of $50-$200 / month is available for bilingual skills demonstrated through testing.
    • Vacation accrual rate – equal to qualified years of service.

      PRINCIPAL DUTIES :

    • Direct personnel and prioritize activities in accordance with departmental objectives for the control and management of crime, disorder, traffic, and community policing efforts.
    • Manage day-to-day operations of assigned area to promote efficiency while mitigating liability. Identify and proactively address operational deficiencies in collaboration with others.
    • Oversee operations in the field; assume Incident Command when warranted; evaluate situations, coordinate resources, provide direction and make operational decisions.
    • Supervise assigned personnel, determine workload and assignments, provide meaningful, timely feedback as well as guidance and instruction. Provide.
    • interpretation of the enforcement of laws, statutes, and codes. Review and approve subordinate work as required.
    • Mentor, coach, and develop employees; identify, secure and / or provide training as needed; evaluate performance and document accordingly; prepare performance agreements and improvement plans. Correct inappropriate behavior, conduct, or performance within the context of progressive discipline and applicable City rules and regulations.
    • Coordinate and facilitate problem-solving and enforcement efforts as it relates to public safety, crime, traffic safety and mitigation, and quality of life issues by working with the community to establish and facilitate partnerships, proactive outreach, and issue resolution.
    • Respond to and serve as needed (Incident Command, Operations, Logistics, etc.) on active or emergency incidents, large-scale operations, preplanned events or major case investigations.
    • Foster safe work practices and direct subordinates to minimize risk and promote safety. Account for the care and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
    • Resolve conflict and reach consensus within diverse groups working toward common goals.
    • Disseminate information and update superiors of important conditions at the operational level.
    • Address citizen complaints and concerns in a timely, professional manner. Document and report complaints as required.
    • Participate in, coordinate, and present law enforcement training and proactive prevention programs. Participate in meetings and assist with recruiting and selection activities. Prepare and make oral presentations related to public safety issues to community and school groups.
    • Represent the Department at various functions and meetings with outside agencies and other City Departments pertaining to assigned areas.
    • Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

    • Possess a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours college-level credit is required.
    • Possess a Colorado POST Certification.
    • Possess a minimum of five (5) full years of full-time, paid, sworn experience as a certified peace officer.
    • Currently be the rank of Sergeant or above at your current agency.
    • Candidates who have obtained a bachelor’s degree will receive a credit of one (1) year toward this experience requirement.
    • Additional requirements :

    • Must be at least 21 years of age by the date of hire.
    • Possession of a valid Colorado Driver License.
    • Meet the minimum qualifications of the Colorado POST Board as defined by CRS 24-31-303, 24-31-304, and 24-31-305.
    • Ability to successfully complete the Sergeant Training Program.
    • Obtain certifications in CPR, Intoxilyzer and a variety of less lethal weaponry and tactics.
    • Must be able to satisfy the Employment Authorization Requirements as outlined on the Colorado POST website https : / / post.colorado.gov / certification / non-united-states-citizens-eligibility.
    • New employees will be required to sign an employment agreement for reimbursement of expenses if voluntary resignation occurs within 2 years of hire date.
    • Ability to :

    • Read, learn, and understand at a level to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Learn and proficiently use standard broadcasting procedures of a police radio system.
    • Use and properly care for firearms and all equipment issued by the City of Longmont in accordance with department policy.
    • Prepare clear, accurate, and grammatically and procedurally correct written reports and warrants.
    • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
    • Analyze situations and provide emergency action.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, other city employees, and the general public and develop community partnerships.
    • Learn to operate basic computer systems and software applications.
    • Selection process includes :

      Application review, written exam, physical ability course, assessment center (to include presentation and table top exercise), oral & integrity interviews, Chief’s interview, background investigation including credit history, criminal history & driver’s history, fingerprints, psychological evaluation, medical exam and drug screen.
