About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of Custodian , to be assigned to the Young Terrace public housing community in Norfolk, Virginia.
The position cleans vacated apartment units using standard cleaning methods and performs standard custodial duties for a property management office and maintenance shop.
Key responsibilities of this position include :
- Cleaning and preparing apartment units for occupancy; cleans rooms, appliances, bathrooms, and floor and wall surfaces using standard cleaning methods.
- Cleans property management office using standard cleaning methods.
- Transports and stores cleaning supplies and chemicals.
- Performs safe cleaning practices : handles, mixes, and stores chemicals safely.
- Breaks down appliances for cleaning; removes, cleans, and replaces trays, grills, and other removal parts of appliances.
- Collects and disposes of litter / trash.
- Completes standard work documents, such as work orders.
- Performs similar routine custodial duties as assigned by supervisor.
About the Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for this job will have :
- A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate (for reading and writing competency).
- One to two years of experience in a janitorial or maintenance position preferred for this position.
- The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 to 50 pounds, such as ranges, furniture, filled buckets, and containers.

NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and / or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he / she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.
NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package . The base rate for this position is $18.00 per hour, or $37,440.
00 per year annual equivalent. Actual compensation offer will be determined by the candidate's work history and skill set.

NRHA offers a total of $3,000 in bonus payments to new hires in this position. A 180-day employment period is required to qualify for the full bonus amount.
