Responsibilities

The Toddler Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for children ages 2–3 years. This role includes assisting with curriculum implementation, daily routines, and classroom organization, while promoting social, emotional, and physical growth. The Assistant Teacher works closely with the Lead Teacher to ensure each child receives individual attention and care, and helps maintain compliance with all state licensing requirements and center policies.

Duties

The core duties of the Assistant Toddler Teacher follow, but these are not intended to be all-inclusive. Duties may change as needed to meet PELC’s needs.

• Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate curriculum activities that support cognitive, language, and motor development.
• Prepare and organize materials for daily lessons and activities.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and inviting classroom environment.
• Support smooth transitions between activities, meals, naps, and outdoor play.
• Supervise and engage toddlers during activities, free play, and group times.
• Assist with feeding, dressing, handwashing, and supporting early potty training readiness.
• Model and encourage positive behavior, social skills, and cooperative play.
• Provide individual attention to children based on their needs and personalities.
• Greet parents and guardians warmly at drop-off and pick-up times.
• Share brief, positive updates about the child’s day, referring detailed questions to the Lead Teacher.
• Support the center’s mission to foster strong relationships with families.
• Follow all health, hygiene, and safety procedures, including frequent handwashing and toy sanitation.
• Monitor children to ensure a safe and positive environment during all activities.
• Report any incidents, injuries, or concerns promptly to the Lead Teacher or Director.
• Work cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and other staff to ensure effective classroom management.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
• Be flexible and willing to assist in other classrooms when needed.
