  • Your Purpose :

    As a Communications and Marketing Manager, you play an integral leadership role in elevating the citys brand, increasing visibility, and fostering engagement with residents, employees, and key stakeholders. You will help guide the citys communications strategysupporting media relations, social media, public relations, and event promotion. You will coordinate the development of campaigns that reflect the citys values and priorities, manage a team of communications professionals, and collaborate closely with City Council and municipal leadership to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals. What Youll Do :

    Strategic Leadership

  • Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the citys mission and goals.
  • Help lead city branding efforts to ensure consistent messaging and visual identity across platforms.
  • Contribute to marketing initiatives that promote the citys public image and encourage community engagement.
  • Media Relations

  • Maintain strong working relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Serve as a point of contact for press inquiries, media statements, and coverage coordination.
  • Assist in managing crisis communications to ensure timely, accurate, and trusted information reaches the public.
  • City Council Support

  • Provide communications assistance to City Council members, including developing talking points, speeches, and presentations.
  • Coordinate public events, forums, and meetings that facilitate transparent engagement between City Council and the community.
  • Internal Communications & Employee Engagement

  • Support internal communication strategies that keep employees informed, motivated, and connected to the citys mission.
  • Help develop employment branding initiatives aimed at attracting and retaining top municipal talent.
  • Event Planning & Promotion

  • Contribute to the planning and promotion of major city events, including festivals, town halls, and outreach campaigns.
  • Assist in the creation of promotional content and marketing strategies to boost public participation.
  • Digital Communications & Video Production

  • Oversee the citys digital communications presence, including website content, social media platforms, email newsletters, and video assets.
  • Manage the production of high-quality video content that showcases city projects, services, and events.
  • Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor a team of communications professionals in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
  • Coordinate team workflows, provide performance feedback, and ensure timely execution of communication projects.
  • Budget & Resource Management

  • Support the management of the department budget and help allocate resources effectively across projects.
  • Assist with procurement and coordination of external vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Community Relations

  • Act as a liaison between the city and the community to build trust, transparency, and mutual understanding.
  • Help plan and deliver engagement campaigns focused on city services, programs, and key public initiatives. What You'll Bring :
  • Minimum Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in branding, media relations, marketing, and event planning.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills for a range of audiences.
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, manage complex projects, and solve problems effectively.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, including social media, CMS platforms, and marketing software.
  • Experience in video production, graphic design, or multimedia communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with crisis communications practices.
  • Creative, motivated, and passionate about public service communications.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, adaptable working style.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working in a municipal government or similar public-sector organization is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in graphic design, including the ability to create high-quality visual content across digital and print platforms.
