This position is for 3 years, contingent upon funding.

Job Description Summary

Conduct research at the ALICE experiment at the LHC with the focus on the heavy flavor hadrons and resonances. Using the new Inner tracking System (ITS) detector and the new O2 software to developand optimize particle identification and selection using Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques.This includes the publication of the research results with frequent presentations at ALICE meetings and Conferences. The duties also include shifts at CERN during data taking.

Responsibilities

  • Experimental data analysis

  • Supervising students data analysis

  • Summary report writing

  • Publishing papers and conference presentations

Required Qualifications:

A PhD in Physics and experience in hadronic resonance and charm hadron reconstruction at high energy accelerator experiments. Familiar with Root and ALIRooT software.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in data calibration and simulation software PYTHIA and DPMJET.

Salary:

$65,000

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
