Willingness to work holidays and every other weekend.

Ability to float to similar units within the facility.

Description :

This position is for a 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatry unit.

The unit is staffed with at least 5 personnel for 18-25 patients, including 3 licensed staff and 2 others.

For 11-17 patients, there are at least 4 staff, with 3 being licensed.

One RN will take on the charge nurse role, another RN will oversee admissions, and another will be responsible for medication administration.

RNs are trained on all three roles.

There are also 2 float positions available, which can be filled by RNs or LPNs.

The float position involves performing rounds, taking vitals, distributing trays, providing patient care, and facilitating groups.

Mental Health Assistants (MHAs) can also take patient assignments similar to nurses.

The staff-to-patient ratio is typically up to 5 : 1 but often lower.

The patient population consists of individuals with acute psychosis presentations such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and suicidal or homicidal ideation.

For any emergent medical issues with patients, emergency services must be contacted.

Seclusions are not offered; restraints are used only as a last resort after all de-escalation techniques have been exhausted.

Nursing and clinical staff manage all restraints on the unit.

Security staff are available for support during crises involving patient escalation and manual holds.
