Overview
Field Engineer - Primoris Renewable Energy (Early Careers 2025-2026) is a site-based role. The Field Engineer will administer daily operations of the project site under supervision of the Trade Superintendent, Project Engineer, Project Manager, and Site Manager. They ensure and maintain cost, safety, schedule, and quality of the project, and provide input and technical expertise for power generating construction projects. They support engineering review, procurement (if necessary), construction, and start-up of high or medium voltage electrical systems. The role includes installation guidance, QA / QC enforcement, scheduling support, and owner correspondence. Review and final submittal to the Owner of Engineer As-builts and project system packages (Job Books). Assist Trade Superintendents with supervision of craft personnel and subcontractors to ensure a safe, productive, quality job and controlled costs in construction field operations.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Complete daily production and costs monitoring for major work items by ensuring production, cost data and safety are collected from prior day. Prepare, review, and analyze daily cost reports for supervisor use; review daily costs and production reports.
- Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, vendors and material suppliers. Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, land-owners and coworkers; document conversations to protect company interests.
- Understand owner contracts, purchase contracts and subcontract documents to understand inclusions / exclusions and schedule for invoice payment. Validate, reconcile and maintain accurate quantities for billing and communicate differences to project management.
- Manage project equipment and material transactions and monitor inventory of equipment and materials.
- Promote a safe work environment by complying with safety policies and regulations. Assist in ensuring subcontractor equipment, materials, and tools are in safe operating condition. Support on-site Risk Management programs and serve as on-site Safety Representative when necessary.
- Familiarize with project design documents, specifications, Quality Plan and ITP. Operate in compliance with the Quality Plan, Work Methods and Primoris processes. Assist in managing project quality and assembly of documentation for job books. Coordinate alignment meetings with subcontractors, vendors and stakeholders. Support quality inspections and assessments as needed.
- Participate in meetings, take notes, and generate monthly manager documents and daily Plan of the Day documents as appropriate.
- Coordinate with Site Manager and Project Engineer to apply for and complete local permits; collaborate with local utility companies; manage One-Call tickets and log; work with landowners and manage lease agreements as needed.
- Check / verify accuracy of Foreman and Subcontractor daily reports (work codes, labor hours, equipment hours, production).
- Analyze field information through frequent field interactions; conduct project kick-off and close-out activities per Primoris procedures.
- Assist with contractual and subcontract closeout activities (job book, as-builts, etc.). Initiate RFIs and submittals, and coordinate with Project Engineer on approvals.
- Assist in document control for field drawings and ensure latest revisions are used; assist in pre-construction checks and takeoffs for material planning.
- Assist with development of work plans, material takeoffs, and material requests; coordinate with Trade Superintendents on pre-construction checks.
- Monitor purchased consumables on-site or in storage to ensure they are approved per submittal process; help establish and maintain crew and equipment matrices and update operations analysis.
Basic Qualifications
Four-year degree in construction management, engineering or related field; or equivalent education and experience. Some construction experience preferred.Accounting (math and record-keeping) skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, Outlook, Visio, Primavera).Effective communication (oral, written, presentation, listening).Effective motivational and supervisory skills; ability to organize and prioritize tasks.Relocation to the project site for the duration of each construction project (typical durations 6-18 months).Valid drivers license and acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).Environmental Focus
Responsible for environmental compliance and ensuring environmental procedures are followed on the project.Train field personnel in environmental stewardship; familiarize with site-specific project conditions, plans, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.Understand county, state, and federal regulations per project; collaborate with Site Manager to meet mitigation requirements, permit conditions, and environmental specifications.Track progress and coordinate with Primoris representatives and subcontractors to maximize environmental installation productivity and control costs. Evaluate alternative methods and costs; demonstrate knowledge of cost of work.Support PM and Site Manager in communicating changes to the owner and collecting information for change orders and pay quantities; client collaboration occurs with PM / SM approval.Monitor storm water pollution prevention and erosion control plans; submit daily or weekly reports for review.Coordinate with owners environmental representative to resolve compliance issues that could impact construction schedules or contract obligations.Benefits and Pay
