JOB SUMMARY :
Perform all Diagnostic Procedures listed in the Procedure Manual from Routine to highly Traumatic Injury Patient Procedures under the direction of the Lead Tech and Physician.
Perform a variety of Technical Procedures that will require Independent Judgment, with ingenuity and initiative for Radiologic Diagnosis.
Responsible for the charging out patient procedures and distribution of images for each exam performed. Position Scope Information : Perform Routine, OR and Trauma Radiologic Tests and use Radiologic Imaging skills to treat patients, Explain procedures to patient's in layperson's terms and confirm patient understanding, Ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of the procedure / appointment, Operate and maintain highly Specialized Medical Imaging Equipment and other Accessory Equipment, Notify Lead Tech and / or Supervisor of issues with malfunctioning or unsafe to use equipment, Possess excellent interpersonal Communication skills for interactions with Patients, Physicians and other Healthcare providers and with other Departments in the Hospital and Clinics.
This position requires extensive interaction with all Hospital Units and Floors, as well as TTUHSC Clinics and other Physician Clinics within and outside of the Lubbock Community.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Maintain a positive and professional atmosphere for patients and co-workers. Demonstrate skills
necessary to interact effectively with patients, families and visitors, understanding and
acknowledging their physical limitations and emotional status.
Transfer patients from wheelchairs / stretchers to the exam tables in a safe and caring manner.
Utilize the EZ Lift Patient Transfer system, SLIPP Sheet and Slideboard in the proper manner.
Properly utilize child immobilization aids (pig-o-stat, cradle, etc). Properly use equipment devices
in each room (myelogram devices, arthrogram devices, speech pathology chair, etc).
Correctly set-up and use all Diagnostic Equipment in each room and each rotation, after proper
in-servicing and a suitable amount of time to get acquainted with the technical factors.
The appropriate Left / Right Lead Positioning Marker, with Initials, must be correctly placed and
seen on the DR Panel / Detector before exposure.
After the correct Patient ID has been chosen on the Digital Radiographic system, responsible for
processing or having the image processed immediately. Process images for self or others.
Correctly and efficiently set up Exam and / or OR rooms for Fluoroscopic and OR Surgical exams,
including, equipment, Trays , Contrast, Supplies, etc. Know the appropriate contrast for specific
exams.
Practice correct sterile technique on Invasive Procedures and prevent cross contamination.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness regarding rooms, equipment and personnel.
Report equipment failure to the Supervisor and / or Lead Tech using the appropriate forms as
soon as the failure is identified.
Must follow the chain of command as provided by the Department. Must accept and take action
on assignments from the Lead Tech and / or acting Lead Tech in a professional and efficient
manner.
May be responsible for specific areas of instruction regarding new staff, ancillary personnel and
South Plains College students.
Turns in all charges and appropriate paperwork immediately following the exam. Charge exams
through the Cerner RIS Computer System correctly and immediately following the exam. Know
all aspects of the Cerner RIS Computer System, including entering orders, charging exams,
editing charges or comments and obtaining other pertinent patient information. Must be able to
do this quickly and accurately.
Rotate within the Department or other Departments as required or needed. Take call on a
rotating basis. Work other shifts and holidays as assigned. Sign up for and stay current on the
Extra Shift Coverage Sheets as a work requirement of the Radiologic Technologist position.
Responsible for acquiring own continuing education credits. Responsible for maintaining and
submitting to management a current copy of ARRT Licensure and TMB / MRT Certification.
Adheres to all Radiation Safety Policies and Standards as required by the State and RSO of the
Department. These include, but are not limited to, shielding gonads, wearing aprons, wearing film
badge, collimating the radiating beam, using proper technique factors, closing doors and keeping
non-essential persons out of the room during exposures.
Maintain a high standard of Image Quality as set by the Department and Physicians. Recognize
technical or positioning errors and correct them without Supervision and / or Instruction.
Correctly use the Hospital transportation system when calling for, or sending back patients to
their rooms or other areas. Must be able to transport patients to rooms or other departments
when needed or requested.
Function independently in each of the OR Rooms and ER Rooms. Handle ER Trauma in a
competent, professional and efficient manner.
Gather and exchange patient information with nursing personnel and physicians. Acquire a
correct Patient History / Reason for Exam.
- Attend all Department Staff Meetings.
- Strictly Adhere to all Department Policies and Procedures.
- Educate patients and families regarding the time frame of exams, and the procedure prior to and
during any procedure performed.
Correctly use the McKesson PACS system and assist other personnel in the use of this system.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Graduate of an Accredited School of Radiologic Technology and at least 24 months of experience in General Radiologic practice preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSURES / CERTIFICATIONS / REGISTRATIONS :
Current Texas Medical Board MRT Licensure / Certification & BLS CPR Certification required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Ability to work well with others and without Supervision. Perform multiple Diagnostic Procedures on a variety of types of patients and situations.
Should be able to perform Portable Procedures. OR Surgical Procedures, Fluoroscopic Procedures and EC Procedures, including Trauma as well as General Radiography.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS :
This position requires extensive interaction with all units and floors, as well as HSC clinics. It requires a close working relationship with TTUHSC Physicians and Radiologists.
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES :
Must be emotionally and physically fit. Work requires constant standing, walking and lifting of patients and equipment. The work is at times stressful with many emotional demands.
Must possess near visual acuity.
ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS :
This position requires frequent work near sources of radiation and in low light conditions in order to see the centering lights.
Fast paced environment with occasional to frequent high pressure or emergent situations. This position is subject to inside environmental conditions.
Occupational risk and exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, ionizing radiation, blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a Hospital / Medical environment.
