Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The hourly wage the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.00.

Job Closing Date

This position offers a hybrid schedule (4 days in office, 1 remote) when applicable; occasional evening and weekend work will also be required.

This is a Contract position. Contract Duration : November 3, 2025 through May 28, 2026 (7 months)

About UC Merced

The Production Coordinator position assists with the planning, coordination, and logistics for UC Merced Arts performing arts programs, including the annual concert series, Shakespeare in Yosemite, and the UC Merced Children's Opera. The Production Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Executive Director for the Arts and works closely with campus partners, faculty, students, and external artists and venues.

The Production Coordinator's work will focus on both performance days and program preparation throughout the academic year. Responsibilities include managing email communications with contracted musicians and visiting artists, coordinating production requirements, and assisting with stage and front-of-house operations. On nonperformance days, the Coordinator completes routine assignments for program communications and marketing, manages internal and external correspondence for the unit and supports donor-facing activities. The Coordinator will also work closely with Yosemite Hospitality for the Shakespeare in Yosemite program and assist with education outreach for the UC Merced Children's Opera. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in performing arts production and administration, with the ability to work collaboratively in a university context and to represent UC Merced in public-facing settings.

Key Responsibilities :

Program & Production Support : Assist the Executive Director in preparing production logistics for concerts and performances, including artist advance communications, venue requirements, and technical needs. Provide support for stage and front-of-house operations on performance days, including coordinating with venue staff and student assistants under direction. Help coordinate rehearsal schedules, artist hospitality, and general performance-day logistics. Assist with communications, scheduling, and park performances for the Shakespeare in Yosemite program. Support education outreach activities for the UC Merced Children's Opera under the direction of the Executive Director and Opera Director.

Communications & Administrative Support : Assist with marketing, publicity, and communications for UC Merced Arts performing arts programs, under the guidance of the Executive Director. Provide general administrative support, including maintaining records, schedules, and basic budget tracking for assigned programs. Support community and donor-facing activities by assisting with logistics and communications as directed. Help coordinate and schedule student assistants, interns, and volunteers for production and front-of-house roles.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related discipline (Arts Administration, Music, Theater, Communications, or Event Management); and / or equivalent experience / training.

Basic knowledge of event planning, production logistics, and public communications.

Organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines with direction.

Written and verbal communication skills for interactions with artists, faculty, staff, students, and community partners.

Ability to learn and apply UC Merced procedures for event planning, safety, and compliance.

Willingness to work evenings and weekends in alignment with performance schedules.

Ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including students, faculty, staff, and the public.
