This position has an anticipated start date Spring or Fall 2024.

The successful candidate will devote up to 65% (negotiable) of their time to instruction, consultation, and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH).

The remaining time will be devoted to integrative classroom and laboratory teaching (10%), research and other scholarly activities (15%), and academic service (10%).

Clinical duties will be shared among a total of four board-certified cardiologists and three to four cardiology residents.

Active supervision of house officers and in-depth participation in resident training (including rounds, journal club, and back-up support) is expected.

Classroom and laboratory teaching are priorities in the department and responsibilities will include education of professional students in our integrated curriculum and opportunities to interface with graduate students across multiple disciplines, if desired.

Additionally, there are opportunities to provide education and outreach outside of the VMBS. Teamwork and collaboration are highly valued at Texas A&M University, and candidates are expected to provide service to committees, working groups, and professional organizations.

The cardiology service is well supported with three fully equipped, state of the art GE ultrasound machines (2 - Vivid E-95, 1 - portable IQ) with a full array of associated 2-D and 4V transthoracic, transesophageal (adult, pediatric, micro) and intracardiac probes that are maintained with the most current upgrades.

Additionally, there are stand-alone workstations (EchoPac, Fuji system) for individual image review and report writing, two digital ECG machines, digital telemetry, digital Holter, novel imaging potential with EchoPixel virtual reality software, and a dedicated catheterization suite.

There is the capacity and adequate support and space for running two cardiology services. Cardiology faculty have dedicated financial support for advanced diagnostic studies, developing and expanding procedural options, and assisting clients that are financially constrained.

The cardiology faculty have an active research program with broad interests that are supported by the department and the Office of Veterinary Clinical Investigation with internal resources for pilot grants, research staff, and a dedicated cardiology research intern.

The successful candidate is expected to engage in collaborative research that aligns with expertise in the department, college, and university.

Our talented Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences boasts over 60 faculty members, including a Geneticist and Biomedical Engineer, and an active group of house officers that includes more than 50 rotating interns and residents in the other medical and surgical disciplines.
