Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our growing preconstruction team. This role produces accurate, competitive estimates and well-structured proposals for the electrical installation of BMS and PLC systems. Success in this role requires strong interpretive skills across controls documents, architectural layouts, mechanical plans, and submittals to build a complete, logical, and cost-sound picture of the work.
Key Responsibilities
- Review controls scope of work documents, Input / Output summaries, and controls shop drawings and submittals alongside MEP plans to define complete electrical installation requirements.
- Prepare detailed takeoffs, labor assessments, and material lists for BMS and PLC electrical work.
- Develop competitive pricing and concise proposal packages with solid assumptions and clarifications.
- Participate in bid opportunities across Vanguard’s three regional offices, working closely with Preconstruction and Field leadership.
- Coordinate with clients and internal stakeholders to confirm scope alignment and reduce uncertainty.
Ideal Candidates / Qualifications
Working knowledge of BMS / BAS and PLC systems components, control panels, communication network, and field device installation requirements.Working knowledge of HVAC mechanical systems.Experience in estimating electrical labor and materials.Ability to review and understand complex project plans and specifications..Proficiency with estimating software (such as Conest or Accubid) and digital takeoff tools (such as Bluebeam).Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applications, and quick to adapt to new technologyAbility to manage multiple concurrent bids with accuracy and consistency.Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with clients and team members.Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate and negotiate costs effectively.Detail-oriented with the capability to substantiate and justify all aspects of final estimates.Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods working on a computer in an office setting.Occasional travel required to project sites and preconstruction meetings.Ability to meet with clients and perform site investigations on potential projects, including projects that are only accessible by ladders and / or stairwells.Compensation & Benefits
