Job Summary :
The First Assistant Editor is responsible for overseeing and managing the flow of work coming in and out of the editorial department. This position requires someone who is meticulous with their work, can juggle multiple demands simultaneously, is incredibly organized and has exemplary communication and troubleshooting skills.
Your Role Responsibilities :
- The First Assistant Editor works closely with the Editor, Production Supervisor and Post-Production Supervisor to establish the editorial framework for the film, creating workflows, best practices, and communication channels that support the editorial department. Establishes workflows with all production departments and the Editorial team, including vendors and partner studios.
- Manages the media coming into the department from pre-production through post-production (storyboards, dialogue records, music, special effects, previs, animation, lighting).
- Imports deliveries and performs quality control for technical requirements, missing footage, or discrepancies. Applies studio / editorial naming conventions to all inputs.
- Tracks outputs from editorial, cut versions, and manages supporting materials.
- Manage Assistant Editors on the project, including workflow training, managing their assignments and mentoring them.
- Work closely with the Editor, Producer / Production Manager and Editorial Production Supervisor to strategize how the editorial team will meet deadlines and manage inflow in the lead up to screenings and reviews.
- Proactively communicates scheduling challenges to remain on time and mitigate overtime.
- Create and transcode media for editorial turnovers and publishes to the creative team, studio executives, vendors, and other studio functions.
- Work closely with the Lead Editor and Editorial Production Supervisor to plan strategies leading up to screenings and major deadlines / turnovers.
- Refine editorial processes, procedures, systems, and databases.
- Archive the final editorial project upon wrap.
Your Qualifications and Experience :
Prior experience as a First Assistant Editor or Assistant Editor on a Feature Animation film, or Series Animation.Can demonstrate proficiency in utilizing AVID Media Composer, Photoshop, FLIX, ProTools.Prior experience setting up a film, project organization and archiving is essential.Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to be flexible.Must be a member of MPEG local 700 and on the IER rosterAbility to anticipate needs of the editorial department.Pro-active and open to learning new skill sets as needed for professional development and project support.The Legal Bits
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Actual compensation will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, skill set, experience, and / or performance. Pay Range : $55.41 (CBA scale) - $56.80 per hour. This role qualifies for benefits according to the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
