Our client in the defense industry is seeking a skilled Writer / Editor Sr to develop and revise complex technical documentation supporting the marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of military-grade products and systems.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, experienced with XML authoring tools, and comfortable working in a team that may be distributed across multiple locations. This role requires a strong understanding of military or commercial documentation standards, excellent communication skills, and the ability to create clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical content.
Responsibilities include :
Creating and revising technical documentation such as product descriptions, operating procedures, fault isolation, maintenance and repair instructions, illustrated parts breakdowns, reports, proposals, and marketing materials
Ensuring documents comply with government specifications, customer requirements, engineering standards, and proper language usage
Utilizing advanced publishing software and XML tools to develop interactive and electronic technical manuals (IETMs)
Collaborating with engineering, product support, and other cross-functional teams to ensure technical accuracy and clarity
Using PDF markup tools for illustration and content review
Supporting document validation and verification efforts when needed
Representing the documentation team in customer interactions as required
Required skills :
Experience with XML authoring tools such as Arbortext Epic Editor or Oxygen
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint required; Access a plus)
Experience using Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar tools for electronic markup
Ability to collaborate with team members across various locations
Knowledge of IETM functionality, development processes, and markup languages
Preferred skills :
On-vehicle validation and verification experience
Experience working within a Content Management System (CMS)
Strong customer interaction and service skills, especially in client-facing roles
Required experience :
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent education and experience
At least 5 additional years of relevant experience beyond the degree
Experience with mechanical, electrical, or operator-level technical writing
Familiarity with applicable military and commercial standards
