Category Meat Department DescriptionThe meat wrapper is an important position within the store. Many customers make their decisions to shop at our store because of the quality of the perishable departments. One of the areas, which influence customers' perceptions of the entire store, is the look and smell of the meat department. Even if the customer is not purchasing meat today, they want to look at meat that is appealing, bright in color, well merchandised, and without discoloration. This position is responsible for creating an appealing presentation of the tremendous variety and selection of steaks, chops, roasts, chicken, and other products that we offer. Each product must be fresh, look good, odorless; with just the proper feel and firmness for the product. Meat must be handled correctly because of the extreme perishability of the product, the negative consequences of doing the job badly, and the really positive results that can affect the entire store. The meat wrapper can make the difference by the way he or she does their job. We need to treat each individual customer like a guest in our home -- with courtesy, friendliness and the respect that they deserve.
Position RequirementsAble to read, write and speak English with reasonable proficiency Able to communicate effectively with customer, associates, and others Flexible in terms of hours scheduled to work Reliable, good work ethic Clean, presentable appearance Good customer service skills Ability to lift boxes at a minimum weight of 30 pounds Ability to stand for four consecutive hours, without restrictions Ability to work effectively in a cool temperature environment Knows basic cuts of meat Must wrap package with speed and accuracy following Jons standards. Must follow company policy on code dating of meat packages using dates listed in meat price book. Must be able to fill and rotate package meat case a daily basis. Fully cleaning shelves before putting product onto them. Must reach out to customers and encourage additional sales. Must be responsive to customers. Must have overall knowledge for use and preparation of products offered for sale. Daily cleaning and maintaining wrapping station. Must adhere to company standards and policies. Must comply with all safety policies and procedures. Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
