Overview
This physician executive provides clinical leadership to elevate quality, safety, and regulatory readiness across one or more partners to Abode Care Partner and BrightSpring Health. In this part-time role, this leader will serve as CMO to our facility partners, and help them manage quality of care, set clinical strategy, strengthen medical direction, and streamline operations to improve outcomes and survey performance while optimizing hospital utilization and total cost of care. This leader will also mentor medical directors within the partner organizations.
Responsibilities
Clinical Strategy and Governance
- Lead the medical strategy for facility partnerships which includes setting expectations and resources for high quality primary care and specialty care
- Assist in recruitment, hiring, contracting, and performance monitoring of medical directors, physicians, and other practitioners in the partnering organization (s).
- Develop and implement standards for effective medical direction at each facility; set expectations, onboarding, and accountability for medical directors
- Quality, Safety & Regulatory Readiness
Partner with chief nursing officer (or equivalent) for the Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI / QAA) programs and oversight of clinical scorecards and dashboards with a focus on preventing avoidable hospitalizations and harmful polypharmacy
Assist in infection prevention & control collaboration, antimicrobial stewardship, and immunization campaigns.Set systems for proactive communication about regulatory mandates and updates with medical directors and other practitioners across partner organizationsMedical Staff Leadership & Clinical PracticeEstablish standards for attending physicians / NPs / PAs (response times, handoffs, after-hours coverage, escalation).
Oversee credentialing processes for physicians and other practitioners within partnering organizations under the CMO Service LineLead the development and oversight of educational programming for medical directors and other medical service providers.Assist partnering organizations to implement evidence-based pathways (sepsis, HF / COPD, diabetes / CKD, wound care, deprescribing / antipsychotic stewardship).Promote innovations and tech-enabled services (telehealth, remote reviews, clinical decision support)Willingness to travel as needed to partner organizations, up to 50% as neededQualifications
Completion of an accredited residency programBoard certification in Geriatric Medicine preferredRequired to be a Certified Medical Director (CMD)Advanced degree preferred (e.g., MBA, MPH, MHA) to support leadership, business, or population health management responsibilitiesMore than five years progressive leadership in PALTC / senior care; prior multiple medical director or enterprise clinical leadership required, with demonstrated success in leading physician engagement, clinical quality initiatives, and interdisciplinary teamsExperience with healthcare compliance, regulatory standards, and value-based care modelsStrong background in data-driven decision making, performance measurement, and quality improvement methodsMedical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree requiredActive, unrestricted medical license in good standing (or eligibility to obtain in practicing states)Board certification in a medical specialty required; preference for Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or GeriatricsDEA registration in good standingAdditional leadership, quality, or management certifications (e.g., CPE - Certified Physician Executive, CPM, or equivalent) preferredComprehensive knowledge of clinical best practices, regulatory standards, and healthcare compliance requirementsStrong understanding of quality assurance, performance improvement, and value-based care modelsKnowledge of credentialing processes, medical staff governance, and contracting requirementsFamiliarity with healthcare business operations, strategic partnerships, and financial principlesExceptional leadership and team-building skills with the ability to recruit, mentor, and retain top clinical talentStrong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with physicians, staff, executives, and external partnersAdvanced skills in data-driven decision making, including analysis of clinical and operational metricsProficiency in developing and delivering education and training programs for diverse clinical audiencesNegotiation and contract management skills to navigate partnerships with SNF chains and healthcare organizationsChange management skills to drive adoption of new technologies, platforms, and documentation standardsAbility to balance clinical excellence with organizational growth and operational prioritiesAbility to collaborate and influence across interdisciplinary teams and at all leadership levelsAbility to lead system-wide initiatives and drive measurable improvements in quality, compliance, and efficiencyAbility to think strategically and translate vision into actionable clinical and business initiativesAbility to foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and high performanceTravel 25-75%About our Line of Business
