We're supporting our client, a leading metal manufacturer based in Steelton, Pennsylvania who are looking for a Controls Technician to join their growing team. The successful Controls Technicianwill have experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with strong hands-on experience in controls maintenance or automation systems.
Job Summary :
As a Controls Technician, you'll be responsible for supporting and maintaining automation and control systems across its production operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring continuous, safe, and efficient manufacturing processes through troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of electrical and control systems.
Responsibilities :
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and related automation equipment.
- Perform electrical and control system diagnostics to minimize downtime and improve process reliability.
- Support production by identifying root causes of control system issues and implementing corrective actions.
- Program, modify, and document PLC logic (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
- Maintain and update electrical drawings, wiring schematics, and control documentation.
- Assist in equipment upgrades, retrofits, and automation improvement projects.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to ensure system reliability and compliance with safety standards.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical and control systems.
- Support data acquisition, sensors, and process instrumentation troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with company safety, environmental, and operational policies.
About You :
Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field (Bachelor's preferred but not required).3+ years in an industrial or manufacturing environment, with strong hands-on experience in controls maintenance or automation systems.Proficiency with PLCs (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Siemens S7, etc.).Experience with HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and process instrumentation.Understanding of industrial networking (EtherNet / IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus).Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics.Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical systems (up to 480V).
