Diesel Mechanic Job Description

Reports to the Shop Supervisor

Job Overview

Perform general vehicle repairs with an emphasis on electrical, air, and hydraulic systems, for a fleet of vehicles that includes flatbed lumber trucks, concrete mixer trucks, and various off-road equipment, such as forklifts and wheel loaders. Position will also require preventative maintenance duties, diagnostic testing, and systems troubleshooting.

Daily Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform inspection, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles, such as truck tractors, semi-trailers, forklifts, pickups, concrete mixer trucks, etc.
• Responsible for performing diagnostic testing on diesel engines, transmissions, and brake systems. Trouble shooting electrical, steering, and cooling systems.
• Responsible for performing diagnostic testing on electrical components, hydraulic systems, suspension and braking systems.
• Analyze diagnostic testing results and complete the appropriate repairs.
• Records and tracks the maintenance work performed on vehicles and communicates these services to the shop supervisor.
• Ensures services performed are compliant with the rules and regulations of the Company's inspection and safety procedures.
• Works independently within the Company's established procedures associated with the specific job requirements.
