Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities :
Responding to calls for service, emergencies, and complaints, ensuring public safety and resolving issues.Investigating criminal activity, collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports.Enforcing traffic laws, conducting accident investigations, and providing traffic control.Serving warrants, subpoenas, and legal documents, and making arrests as required.Engaging with the community through public interactions, educational presentations, and proactive safety initiatives.Qualifications
Must hold a current law enforcement officer certification.Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess a valid Driver's License.Minimum of 1+ years of experience in law enforcement operations, including patrol, investigation, and public engagement.Sheriff Deputy Automatic Disqualifiers
Criminal History : Any conviction or plea of guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.Conviction of any Class 1 or Class 2 misdemeanor, excluding traffic violations, within the last 5 years.Any conviction or plea of guilty or no contest to any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to fraud, theft offenses, and perjury.Any conviction or plea of guilty or no contest to any misdemeanor sex offense, including sexual offenses or domestic assault as defined by Virginia law.Any conviction that requires registration in the Virginia Sex Offender Registry.Adult commission of undetected crimes of a serious or repetitive nature.Traffic Violations : Three or more negative points on a Virginia Operator's License or equivalent out-of-state licenses; DUI within the past three years or more than one DUI in a lifetime; active license suspension / revocation; other serious driving violations within the past three years; two or more avoidable at-fault accidents in the past three years.Drugs : Sale or distribution of illegal drugs; illegal use of cocaine, heroin, or Schedule I / II substances within specified timeframes; illegal use of anabolic steroids; illegal use of marijuana within the past twelve months; any illegal drug use after age 30 evaluated case-by-case.Others : Past or current gang affiliation; dishonorable military discharge; untruthfulness or withholding information on any application or testing process; failure to follow testing process directions.Note : This is not an exhaustive listing of background disqualifiers. Applicants who are successful in the initial testing will undergo a thorough background investigation, including polygraph examination. Areas of concern will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis within the context of the full investigation / review.
