Summary

Operates and repairs drilling equipment. Maintains drilling rigs, vehicles, and safety equipment associated with the safe and efficient operation of a rig site.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain drilling fluid.
• Transfer drilling fluids on location.
• Repairs equipment
• Under the direct supervision of the Driller, Derrick Hand may supervise other employees in specific tasks
• The work of this position requires frequent contact with drilling personnel to give and exchange information
• Work is normally performed out-of-doors, where exposure to atmospheric conditions of extreme heat or cold, fumes, and gases are frequent. Exposure to noise, vibration, high pressure, moving/mechanical parts, electrical shock, chemical and caustic materials is common in the normal performance of the duties associated with this position
• The work of this position requires manual dexterity to operate drilling tools.
• The work of this position involves the frequent movement of up to 100 lbs. to lift, push, pull or carry equipment.
• Reaching, climbing and balancing is required to climb flights of stairs, vertical ladders up to 140 feet high and reach and handle equipment.
• Vision and depth perception skills are required to supervise and monitor equipment and conditions on rig.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED, or the equivalent required
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Ability to follow oral or written instructions to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
• Ability to interact with others in a team environment
• Minimum training requirements: Health, Safety and Environment Orientation and Rig Specific Start Up Training. Well Control Certification, Driller Level, Drilling Only, and Horizontal and Extended Reach Drilling (HERDIT)
• Three (3) to five (5) years prior experience in procedures associated with drilling a well.
• Will be required to pass all pre-employment requirements including a physical demands and drug-screening test along with a thorough background and motor vehicle record check
