Parks Maintenance Crew Member
Performs alone and / or leads member staff, volunteers and community service workers in grounds maintenance activities to maintain the functionality and aesthetics of park grounds and facilities to include but not limited to events, tournaments and facility rentals. This position reports directly to the Crew Chief or Assistant Park Supervisor (Maintenance).
Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. Additional compensation based on licensure.
Mows, edges, rakes, spot fertilizes, top-dresses, makes minor irrigation repairs, picks up trash, drives county vehicles, tows, and secures equipment for transport to various locations on main roads and streets. Operate grounds maintenance tools and equipment such as painters, chalkers, weed trimmers, mowers, tractors, shovels, edgers, blowers, chain saws, hedge clippers and hand tools. Help maintain the parks in a clean safe environment, pick up trash, assist in minor irrigation repairs, and small construction projects as required. Operates a pick-up truck, van, trap / bunker rakes, mowers and paint machines along with utility vehicles. Transport and deliver supplies, materials and tools as needed. Prepares park facilities for use. Coordinates activities with Crew Chief or Assistant Park Supervisor (Maintenance) for self and team members to execute. Read sporting field schematics to properly line, paint and set dimensions appropriately (baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and football). Maintains all items of inventory assigned to the park. Ensures that all county equipment goes to Fleet Services for scheduled preventative maintenance. Gives input for the purchase of capital projects and equipment. Maintains and updates all irrigation systems. Assist in preparation of daily and weekly reports on facilities, fields, equipment and supplies functionality. Helps to implement turf maintenance program, following best management practices. Plants and removes trees, bushes and flowers. Lays and removes sod. Performs other related work as required. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
High School / GED and one (1) year experience in the use, operation and care of grounds maintenance tools and equipment required. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to perform physically demanding job duties, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Ability to read and write. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Working knowledge in the techniques used in grounds maintenance, such as power and / or hand equipment. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings. Department specific trainings per position may be required.
