Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical specialty where various minimally invasive procedures are performed using medical imaging guidance such as x-ray, MRI, or ultrasound. These procedures might be for biopsy, diagnosis, or intervention. THFW IR supports 5 IR suites and works directly with our Radiology care unit that takes care of our patients pre and post procedure.
The Interventional Radiology Technologist functions independently as a member of the Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR), Neuro Endovascular Radiology team. Direct care team members include a registered nurse, a scrub (Rad Tech or RN), physician assistant if needed, as well as the physicians performing the procedure. This individual is responsible for helping perform a variety of complex specialized tasks including but not limited to operating fluoroscopy, computed tomography, laser, and ultrasonography equipment during vascular and neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures, assisting in positioning patients safely and accurately to ensure high quality interpretation, sterile technique, and post processing of the images taken during the case. The ability to self-direct and to organize a varied workload is required.
