SUMMARY: Defines therapeutic objectives and recommends methods of therapy to ordering physicians. Acts independently (under departmental policies and guidelines) in making judgments concerning changes in the therapeutic regime of patients as prescribed by the patient’s physician.

HOURS: Monday- Friday 8:AM-5:PM

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the state of California and credentialed as a registered Respiratory therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Minimum of two years with critical care patients required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: Current California Respiratory Therapist license, current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association and current ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. 1. Trouble shoot equipment problems and take appropriate actions to correct them.
2. Responsible for cleaning equipment and calibrating pulmonary functions test machine (PFT)
3. Demonstrate the ability to set priorities insuring that patients most in need of care are treated immediately.
4. Apply principles and properties of aerosol and humidity therapy.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the hazards involved in the use of medical gases and/or treatment modalities.
6. Document the effectiveness of therapy in the patient’s chart.
7. Explain the purpose and desired outcome of therapy to patients.
8. Provide clinical respiratory assessments as required and in accordance with patient's plan of care.
9. Provide periodic updates to physician, referral source and case managers on the patient's progress with Care Plan.

. Complete required medical record documentation and reports for services provided

. Function in the Respiratory Therapist scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
