Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant - Special Operations Group

This is a promotional opportunity, open only to current permanent, classified employees of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries / Enforcement Division. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. This position is located in the Enforcement Division in the Office of the Secretary in the Special Operations Group.

An ideal candidate should possess the following competencies : strong leadership abilities, problem solving skills, great integrity, great communication skills, independent thinking skills, keen attention to details, ability to communicate orally and in writing, and emotional intelligence.

Minimum qualifications : one year of experience as a Wildlife Enforcement Corporal or higher rank in state service. Necessary special requirements include possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification, a current driver's license, and potential qualification as an ex-officio notary public.

Note : This job has special physical requirements including lifting heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walking long distances, working in harsh weather conditions, firing handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately, and operating vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles.

Job Duties :

• Patrols public / private land and waters, including federal waters, using specialized equipment while enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to protect and preserve the fish and wildlife resources and the citizens of the state.
• Provides public safety services on the waterways of the state.
• May be assigned to work and coordinate investigations in an undercover or covert capacity and may be required to infiltrate illegal activities involving fish and wildlife or other operations under the jurisdiction of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
• Serves as the first-line supervisor for sworn enforcement personnel assigned to Headquarters inside the Enforcement Division.
• Supervises and assists sworn personnel assigned to the Special Operation Group and coordinates executive protection as necessary.
• Temporarily performs duties as Section / Unit Commander in absence of Wildlife Enforcement Captain over Special Operations to include statewide enforcement effort coordination as it pertains to high level operations.
• Schedules, tracks, and coordinates the specialized training of agents assigned to the unit and ensures training requirements are current.
