Engineering at Early Warning (EWS) is a blend of teams organized around many different platforms, capabilities and products that are brought together to power core capabilities at the biggest banks in America this includes ubiquitous products like Zelle and Paze. Overall Purpose

Designs, develops, documents, tests, debugs, and maintains data solutions that power new and existing software product applications. Provides expertise and familiarity in software tools, frameworks, and best practices in secure software engineering. Acts as a technical leader on the team, collaborates closely with the architecture team and ensures that the platform moves forward to continue powering Early Warning products.

Essential Functions

Leads deep, complex, and high-risk technical projects, and fosters the communication around them.

Develops features and capabilities to enhance the Early Warning core product offerings.

Manages source code using Git.

Queries platform data using SQL-based DBs.

Works on Java Web Services using Spring Boot.

Tracks sprint work in Jira and documents decisions in Confluence.

Builds automated tests along with sprint work that is integrated into the CI / CD pipeline.

Reviews, and approves pull requests ensuring that code quality remains high.

Troubleshoots complex bugs that may arise during software development.

Ensures that platform architecture meets our growth, monitoring and alerting goals.

Mentors more junior team members with guidance around techniques, tools, and best practices.

Collaborates with stakeholders to make the right trade off decisions.

Influences decisions by leveraging critical thinking skills and relationships.

Support the companys commitment to risk management and protecting the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and / or experience typically obtained through completion of a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Science Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or related field.

10 or more years of related industry experience.

Proficient in Java, Spring Boot, SOA framework, web services.

Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging frameworks (Pub / Sub, Kafka, etc.).

Experience with SQL.

Comfortable with Linux-based systems.

Strong understanding of algorithms and data structures.

Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and low-level optimizations skills.

Proficient with Git source control. Knowledge of mature engineering practices (CI / CD, testing, secure coding, etc.).

Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) best practices, software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, LEAN etc.) and DevOps practices.

Familiarity with writing automated tests.

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Background and drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional related education and / or experience preferred.

Strong understanding of Event-based programming, Multi-threading, Memory management, Kernel / User mode, Fault tolerance, Distributed systems.

Eagerness to learn, develop and maintain CI / CD pipelines across multiple applications using tools such as Gitlab pipelines, Harness, Ansible and Terraform.

Proficiency with our standard developer toolchain including Gitlab, Atlassian products, VS Code and Docker.

Proficiency with Linux and Bash

Familiar working with common data format standards like XML, JSON YAML, etc.

Familiarity with Docker / Kubernetes

FinTech experience is highly beneficial.

Stay current with industry trends and innovations through continuing education, company provided training and proof of concepts.

Physical Requirements

Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Work may require occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching. Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally and / or negligible amount of force frequently. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers. Requires the ability to communicate with internal and / or external customers.

The base pay scale for this position in Phoenix, AZ / Chicago, IL in USD per year is : $158,000 - $210,000. New York, NY / San Francisco, CA in USD per year is : $189,000 - $240,000. Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.
