Purpose of the Role
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for fiber network planning and project management of engineering initiatives and will generate documentation to support the installation, configuration, and ongoing network operations and maintain the networks.
The engineer will also be responsible for project management of major engineering initiatives and generating detailed engineering documentation to support the installation, configuration, and ongoing operations of the network.
Responsibilities include :
- Oversee the network infrastructure's design, implementation, and maintenance to include LAN, WANs, VPNs, GPON, cloud-based network, wireless, and Wi-Fi solutions.
- Design and plan network communications systems, including point-to-point, Ring, and path-diverse routing.
- Monitor consistency, reliability, performance, and interference issues with the network infrastructure.
- Detailed understanding and experience with GPON and XGS-PON.
- Functional proficiency with Local and Wide Area Networking equipment, Virtual Operating Systems, Firewalls, Passive Optical Networks, and other related technologies.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve network challenges and downtime.
- Configure, design, and test network configuration.
- Document and diagramming of networks, relevant processes, and troubleshooting steps.
- Develop technical specifications with vendors for equipment selection and evaluate equipment performance associated with the quality and procurement team.
- Define and maintain the network architecture to meet current and future business needs, scalability requirements, and industry best practices.
- Develop and implement network security policies and protocols to protect the organization’s data infrastructure from cyber threats and comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Directs internal and / or external resources to implement, manage, and repair fiber optic networks.
- Plan and develop new fiber optics routes, negotiate, as needed, for outside resources for detailed route design, material, and vendor specifications.
- Provide specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture.
- Researches existing databases, files, and records for purposes of network design, fiber optimization, and relocation of fiber facilities
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering or technology field
- Seven (7) years of experience in network, fiber, or construction engineering
- Expert in management of Layer-1 and Layer-2 fiber optic networking and troubleshooting / tuning techniques of related protocols
- Possess strong knowledge of routing protocols, including OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
- Experience with IP traffic redistribution, route filtering, and load-balancing and a strong understanding of VLANs, Subnetting, and IP Provisioning
- Knowledge of Edes design schematics of fiber path and splicing work to be performed for fiber projects, relocation of existing fiber facilities, and restoration of existing traffic
- Ensures inventory of fiber circuits is accurate by inputting fiber usage data into the inventory management database and maintaining information as changes occur
- Ability to plan for present and future capacity requirements
- Plan, develop and conduct network design test plans
- Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, including routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, and gateways
- The preferred candidate will have budgeting and financial analysis experience, and possess strong project management experience.
