Job Overview - Substance Abuse Counselor:
Compensation: $28 - $38/hour (Dependent on Experience)
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (On-Site)


Join our behavioral health client in Brooklyn, NY as a Substance Abuse Counselor, delivering essential care to individuals with substance use disorders. In this temporary role, you’ll conduct screenings and assessments, provide individual and group counseling, coordinate treatment plans, and ensure accurate documentation to support recovery outcomes.

Responsibilities as the Substance Abuse Counselor:
  • Client Assessment: Conduct intake interviews, mental health screenings, and comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments.
  • Counseling & Support: Deliver individual and group counseling using evidence-based approaches and motivational techniques.
  • Case Management & Referrals: Coordinate care, provide referrals to community resources, and support discharge planning.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain timely, OASAS-compliant records and collect toxicology samples as required.
  • Collaboration & Reporting: Participate in treatment team meetings and prepare progress reports for courts or referring agencies.
Qualifications for the Substance Abuse Counselor:
  • Certification: CASAC, CASAC-T, or LMSW certification required (New York State).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in substance use counseling and case management, with emphasis on treatment planning and opioid use disorders.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal and clinical writing skills, with strong computer proficiency.
  • Language Requirement: Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
