Project Coordinator

A team of researchers in the Departments of Global Health and Epidemiology at Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University has been conducting research aimed at improving prevention, care, and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) including drug-resistant TB, TB / HIV co-infection and latent TB infection, as well as examining the impact of TB on non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular health. The group collaborates with partners at other U.S. institutions as well as partners based at international sites in Georgia, Philippines, South Africa, Ethiopia, Brazil, and India.

We are seeking a self-motivated, highly-organized Project Coordinator with experience in research project management and enthusiasm for public health work, who will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the quality and project progress of a NIH-funded research project being conducted at a domestic research site. This position requires up to 30-35% travel to the domestic site(s) for monitoring project progress on a quarterly basis (1-2 week trips). This position will support the work of Principal Investigators within our team and report directly to the Program Director.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide administrative and research support to the Principal Investigator and Program Director for the execution of NIH funded project.
  • Serve as the primary Emory point of contact to facilitate communication and stakeholder engagement between research sites and collaborating agencies, including daily emails, frequent video / teleconferences, and quarterly site visits.
  • Coordinate and lead team meetings and conference calls, preparing and distributing meeting agendas before, and minutes and action items after meetings. As part of developing meeting agendas, coordinator will prepare reports and tables to document project progress and next steps in meetings with the study Investigators, Program Director, and other Key Personnel.
  • Act as a liaison between Emory team and study personnel at domestic sites to ensure seamless integration of the study into clinical and programmatic settings.
  • Work directly with site staff to ensure compliance with project protocols and national / international research regulations, developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) at each site.
  • Monitor enrollment and laboratory results of study participants.
  • Create and manage study database in REDCap, including importing data, conducting data quality checks, and generating reports to monitor enrollment, data collection and data cleaning and analysis via R and SAS.
  • Develop and revise, as-needed, data collection case report forms (CRFs) and associated REDCap database(s).
  • Develop, implement, and track project work plans for all relevant study activities in collaboration with study personnel at domestic sites.
  • Collaborate with data management teams and site staff to ensure accurate and complete data collection.
  • Conduct quarterly domestic site visits lasting 1-2 weeks for project implementation and monitoring, and to represent the Emory-based study team. Visits may include review of project protocol, discussion of project successes and challenges, quality control of project documents, provision of staff training, goal setting and completion of project specific tasks. During these site visits, the coordinator will draft and send daily field notes to the Principal Investigator, Data Manager, Program Director, and other key project personnel detailing study activities and meetings with site collaborators.
  • Prepare, submit, and manage ethics applications / approvals including amendment and annual renewals to the Emory Institutional Review Board; oversee ethics applications at all relevant site IRBs.
  • Work with Principal Investigator and Program Director to monitor project-related budgets including reviewing project ledgers and invoices and tracking project expenses.
  • Except for during site visits, work from assigned desk located in Rollins School of Public Health as part of a hybrid work schedule, including two to three in-office workdays per week.
  • Complete additional project tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of related project management experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Masters in Public Health or related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Experience and / or interest in global health research projects preferred (TB experience a plus, but not required).
  • Track record of managing multiple priorities within a geographically dispersed research team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, and willingness to take ownership of project, with minimal oversight, within the required timeframe.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills which are necessary in prompt email responses, presentation of study progress to collaborators and key personnel, and leading virtual and in-person team meetings.
  • Familiarity with human subjects research regulations, epidemiology global health concepts, and biostatistics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and strong computer capabilities.
  • Experience using statistical software (SAS, R, REDCAP) to track project progress and summarize data for publications.
  • Willingness and ability to travel multiple times per year for 1-2 week trips in support of the research project.
  • Note : This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
