Position Description
Think Tank is seeking a Seasonal Sea-Going Technician Level II to assist NOAA with annual fishery-independent monitoring surveys in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean . These positions focus on field sampling and data collection at sea ; no land-based support between trips is required.
Responsibilities
- Participate in 5–140 days at sea annually, standing up to 12-hour watches.
- Assist with sorting, identifying, measuring, dissecting, and sampling fish and invertebrates, including age, growth, maturity, genetics, and diet studies.
- Collect and annotate optical survey data (image review, species ID, organism measurements).
- Maintain scientific protocols to ensure high-quality data collection.
- Support general shipboard sampling activities, organization, and clean-up.
- Operate and troubleshoot electronic data acquisition systems.
Requirements
Experience identifying fish and invertebrate species in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean.Experience working aboard research vessels.Familiarity with bottom trawls and / or scallop and clam dredges.Ability to work 12-hour shifts at sea.Familiarity with electronic data acquisition systems.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Strong teamwork skills with the ability to also work independently.Seniority level
