Job Description
Individual has knowledge, experience and skill to provide inspection of construction activities in
the field. Must understand design plans, construction details and specifications. Apply
judgement to safety procedures, materials, and construction procedures as presented. Understand
project scheduling and be able to estimate activity duration. Review material quantities and
construction cost estimates. Communicate with contractor, client, and CES supervisor to ensure
smooth and efficient reports and that all parties are informed of progress, scheduling and budget.
NICET Certificate preferred. Experienced inspector without NICET certification will be
considered. NICET classes at CES cost are available. Salary commensurate with experience.
Typical duties are to ensure quality work, meet a schedule, and obtain project profitability
- Position requires knowledge of road and site work, stormwater, sanitary sewer, potable water, land grading, pavement construction techniques and other site construction activities.
- Must be able to read plans and specifications, and review construction procedures and collaborate to seek best construction outcomes.
- Must understand safety procedures, use appropriate safety equipment on the construction site and be able to identify and report unsafe practices.
- Should be familiar with tools used by inspectors
- Material testing or geotechnical knowledge and experience a plus
- Must be able to measure materials and provide calculations to compare with plans and
contractor information
Should understand traffic control procedures, soil erosion and sediment controlprocedures
Should be knowledgeable of construction testing procedures such and concrete testingand pavement core borings.
Understand project roles and responsibilitiesMust review contracts, prepare reports, review schedules and budgets to keep the Clientand CES Supervisor informed on the status of the project.
Attend project meetings, as necessaryIdentify materials as appropriate to the design and specificationsUnderstand land surveying, recognize property lines and construction boundariesReview soil compaction activities, asphalt and concrete properties and testingrequirements
Inspect reinforcing steel and wire fabrics, storm drainage grading, storm collectionstructures installation and backfill procedures, geotechnical fabric use, signage, guiderail,
handicap ramps, landscaping and lighting installations
Record daily work, materials, quantities, people / companies present, specific location ofwork in 15 minute intervals and summarize daily work completed.
Experience and Education
3+ years’ experience required. NICET I, II or III. OSHA and other Training Certificates. Must
be detail oriented, organized and have excellent written and communication skills with
understanding of MS Word, Excel, Scheduling software, etc. Must have a valid driver's license.
Construction or engineering education a plus.
