Job description

Position Summary Information

Summary Under general supervision, provides coaching support for the assigned sport at California Baptist University (CBU). Contributes to various program functions—including athlete development, training, and strength conditioning—and assists with recruiting activities as directed, helping advance the program’s competitive and developmental goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.1. Demonstrate understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department.2. Assist the head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training sessions, and competitions in alignment with CBU Athletics’ philosophy and sound coaching principles.3. Support the development and implementation of workout programs and training routines aimed at improving athletic performance.4. Help implement and supervise athletic training, strength, and conditioning sessions; provide technical instruction and guidance to student‑athletes as appropriate for the sport.5. Participate in fundraising, marketing, promotional, and community engagement activities as assigned.6. Perform administrative tasks such as ordering, maintaining, and inventorying equipment, along with other responsibilities as assigned.7. Assist in coaching all practices throughout the season.8. Support planning and preparation of team training for the season.9. Assist the head coach in scheduling and coordinating home and away contests in accordance with conference and NCAA requirements, including preparation and submission of required documentation.10. Maintain records and statistics during games as directed; motivate student‑athletes using strategies consistent with the mission and philosophy of CBU Athletics.11. Exhibit exemplary sportsmanship in interactions with student‑athletes, staff, officials, and opponents, in alignment with NCAA standards of ethical conduct.12. Stay current on sport‑specific regulations, rule changes, and NCAA policies.13. Manage time effectively in a demanding and fast‑paced work environment.14. Assist with recruiting efforts, including identifying prospects, supporting outreach and communication, coordinating logistics for visits, and maintaining recruiting records as directed by the head coach or lead recruiter.15. Coordinate team travel arrangements.16. Oversee ordering, distribution, and management of team apparel and equipment.17. Assist in preparing and/or reviewing scouting reports.18. Support video operations, including video exchange, editing, and statistical analysis.19. Comply with all institutional, conference, and NCAA bylaws and regulations.20. Promote and protect the physical, emotional, and social well‑being of student‑athletes by helping establish and maintain a safe and supportive environment.21. Support the head coach in monitoring, enforcing, and modeling compliance with all NCAA bylaws, policies, and procedures. Supervisory Responsibilities This position may be responsible for assigning tasks and providing direction to Graduate Assistants, student managers, practice players, and student workers to ensure the successful completion of work assignments. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the role:· Demonstrated ability and willingness to live and uphold the University’s Christ‑centered mission and values.· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students.· Ability to foster and maintain a cooperative, team‑oriented work environment.· Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports, including relevant rules and regulations.· Demonstrated competitive coaching ability within the designated sport.· Strong organizational and coordination skills.· Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles, programs, and routines.· Ability to make sound administrative and procedural decisions and judgments.· Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical instructions, manuals, and safety guidelines.· Proficiency in basic first aid procedures.· Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical practices.· Ability to respond calmly, decisively, and effectively in emergency situations.· Knowledge of ordering processes, inventory management, and equipment/supplies control.· Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.· Ability to travel—including domestic and international air travel—and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While carrying out the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit. The role requires visual acuity to read words and numbers, as well as sufficient speaking and hearing abilities to communicate effectively in person or by phone. The position involves moderate physical activity, including handling objects weighing up to 25 pounds and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. The noise level is typically moderate. Duties may involve moderate exposure to environmental elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. The position may also involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring adherence to basic safety precautions. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, plus one to two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. NCAA experience is preferred.
