JOB SUMMARY

The RN Safety & Quality Coordinator Emergency Services & Sepsis is a professionally trained RN responsible for leading the efforts to advance patient safety culture and performance improvement throughout the Emergency Services and Sepsis management throughout the organization.

This role is responsible for analysis, process improvement, through use of data collection regarding system wide Emergency Department Services and Sepsis.

The coordinator organizes performance improvement processes for patient care services with an emphasis on clinical guidelines, evidenced practice, and outcomes management.

Sepsis coordination leads, directs, and negotiates through collaboration with practitioners and staff to promote safe care delivery that assures efficiency, clinical outcomes, and cost effectiveness throughout the system.

The coordinator is also responsible for the collection and data entry of the elements required for submission and timeliness of data submission to the Trauma Registry database in accordance with the Florida Department of Health Standards.

This role is responsible for preparing reports and participating in projects and work related to the analysis, development, interpretation, and presentation / reporting of operational and strategic performance data.

The coordinator schedules and facilitates the Sepsis Committee meetings, including agendas and meeting minutes. The overreaching goal is to advance safe practices to achieve organizational strategic goals for Emergency Department measures and Sepsis throughout the NCH Healthcare System.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and assessment of strategic plan for improving patient safety and quality for Emergency Services and Sepsis for the system.
  • Promotes and supports patient safety and high reliability methods.
  • Provides ongoing patient tracking, concurrent and retrospective chart abstraction, and data entry of trauma service patients into the trauma registry data bank.

Provides ongoing data tracking and validation of CMS Sepsis Core Measures.

  • Supports the process related to performance improvement in E.M.R. documentation and dashboard.
  • Assists with the preparation of ongoing statistical reports and developing specialized reports as needed for sepsis data collection and reporting for process improvement.
  • Serves as liaison between quality and all other related departments and medical staff.
  • Accurately fills all required fields in trauma database as required.
  • Assists in the identification of safety and quality management / performance improvement related issues encountered in the Emergency Services Line.
  • Works with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance and success with Emergency Room treatment with use of evidence-based practices and regulatory standards.
  • Reports findings of metrics in a standardized methodology to applicable / appropriate over-site committees and / or appropriate venues using available analytics.

Supports the Sepsis Committee.

  • Provides ongoing education and implementation of practice guidelines to support clinical and medical staff in Sepsis Management.
  • Supports high reliability methods for patient safety and a just culture.
  • Utilizes improvement methodologies including lean six sigma and PDSA cycles for rapid cycle change.
  • Stays current on all CMS Sepsis measures / updates, and best practice guidelines.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Florida.
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field from an accredited college / university required.
  • MSN preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of emergency / trauma experience preferred.
  • Quality data analysis, performance improvement and lean process experience preferred. Certification in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or IHI healthcare quality training within 2 years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Must have ability to use judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential information.
  • High to intermediate computer knowledge : Uses Microsoft applications and ability to learn and utilize various computer databases and E.
