The Opportunity:

As the New & Beginning Farmer Education Coordinator, you will coordinate and implement classes, workshops, networking events, and program partnerships as part of the Washington State University (WSU) Kitsap Farming and Food Systems program. You will also work closely with WSU Regional Small Farms program staff to organize new and beginning farmer classes for audiences across Clallam, Jefferson, and Kitsap counties.

Working under general direction, you will use your knowledge and experience to support the program.

You will exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying rules and regulations, and you will advise program participants and the public regarding program content, policies, procedures, and activities. You will recommend alternative courses of action when needed, engage extensively with the public and partner agencies, and coordinate, schedule, and monitor program activities to ensure they align with program goals.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible.

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end one year after date of hire. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Monthly Salary: $4,050.92 - $5,829.37 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

• Three (3) years of experience farming or working as an agricultural resource provider.

• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance withSPPM 7.10and departmental driving standards.

• Ability to travel within targeted counties.

• Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience, both orally and in writing.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Workday.

• Knowledge ofWSUBusiness Policies and Procedures in the areas of personnel, finance, and administration.

• Experience in higher education, local or state agency, or equivalent.
