Job description
Organization OverviewUtah Valley Refugees, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Provo, UT, resettles refugees to Utah County and helps them develop the skills they need to be self-reliant in their new community. We are a collaborative community partnership that works to improve lives of refugees adjusting to life in Utah County. We provide services such as affordable housing and medical care, employment and educational services for qualified low-income refugees living in Utah County.
Position General DescriptionWe are looking for a well-organized, self-motivated, reliable and experienced volunteer to help develop our mental and relational health program. You will assist our staff with health promotion initiatives such as designing health education curriculum, running educational workshops, and liaising with health care professionals in the community. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in community health.
The purpose of this program is to empower refugees and immigrants with the basic skills and resources they need in the areas of mental, relational, and physical health. This will be achieved through education and access to viable community resources.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Able to commit to 5-10 hours of volunteering a week
  • Previous experience or education in public health or healthcare preferred
  • Background in social work, family studies, behavioral health, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or another related health or mental health area.
  • Preference given to those of a refugee or immigrant background or familiarity working across cultures.

Skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work proactively within a team as well as independently
  • Self-starter, able to think creatively to solve problems
  • Strong writing skills preferred
  • Bilingual in Dari, Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Swahili, or Arabic a plus!

Background Check RequirementAll volunteers are required to provide a Utah BCI background check prior to working as a volunteer. A federal background check may also be required based on the volunteer position.
