CobbFendley is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Inspector in our Houston, Texas office.

The successful candidates most important qualifications include :

  • 2 years of experience as a Construction Inspector (roadway, bridge, pavement, water, sewer).
  • Experience inspecting cast-in-place concrete structures.
  • Public works experience required.
  • TxDOT Construction and Utility Inspection experience preferred.
  • TXDOT SB 102 and Level 1B certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SiteManager software preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and able to work independently on the job site.
  • Able to travel to remote locations for extended periods.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Motivation to work in a dynamic environment with strict deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Inspect construction activities at sites to ensure compliance with contract specifications and approved plans.
  • Inspect and test work using handheld tools to record field notes and track progress to identify potential conflicts and make recommendations on how to proceed.
  • Inspect, coordinate, and track utility relocation.
  • Inspect materials.
  • Schedule and attend Utility Meetings, Public Utility Meetings, One-to-One Utility Meetings, TxDOT / Municipality coordination meetings.
  • Read and interpret plan drawings.
  • Exercise judgment in identifying potential problems and take necessary corrective action to inform the contractor and Construction Manager that an item is out of compliance.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Perform independent research and delegate changing priorities.
  • Work with minimal supervision and deliver accurate work product.
  • Adhere to CobbFendley’s safety standards to uphold a safe and efficient environment.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and fulfill responsibilities with integrity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical mobility in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other field assignments.
  • Physical mobility including but not limited to hand-eye coordination, steadiness, upper / lower body strength, control precision, stamina, multilimbed coordination, static strength, manual dexterity, oral comprehension and expression, and depth perception.
  • Alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high volume average daily traffic.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and balance equipment & supplies (up to 50 pounds) in remote, rural, or urban surroundings.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and walk long distances.
  • Walking long distances (3+ miles) and climbing on uneven surfaces.
  • Climbing in and out of a vehicle multiple times a day and driving for extended periods of time.
  • Repeated motions (e.g., reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling).
  • Sitting and / or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Climbing up and down ladders.
  • Mobility within the warehouse (between floors and workstations), high-traffic areas, and walk surfaces.
  • Repeated motions (e.g., reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling / crawling, squatting, twisting, climbing, head tilting and handling).
  • Communication with other employees and clients.
  • Work up to 12 hours or more per day, when necessary.
  • Work in remote locations at project sites across the U.S.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments (approximately 80% of duties to be performed outdoors in the field and 20% are performed indoors in the office / warehouse).
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions (i.e., hot and freezing temperatures).
  • Use of electric power tools, cutting tools and other equipment.
  • Driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers (if applicable).
  • Potential watercraft use.
  • Noise exposure.
  • Exposure to allergens including but not limited to poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, cedar, etc.
  • Enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to construction and traffic work zones.
  • Extended periods of Personal Protective Equipment use.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7 : 30 AM to 4 : 30 PM CST.
  • This position may include the need for overtime hours.
  • This position’s hours fluctuate based on department needs.
  • This position may require extensive travel.
