Description
We are seeking an Accountant / Bookkeeper for a prestigious nonprofit organization in Chicago. The accountant is responsible for executing daily bookkeeping tasks to ensure the accuracy of financial records. This includes managing and recording financial transactions, maintaining, and updating the general ledger, preparing financial reports, reconciling bank statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations.

Experience Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field3-5 years of work experienceKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.Analyzing budgets, managing accounts payable and receivable.Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Intuit, Nation Builder, etc.)Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong organizational and time management abilities.Effective communication skills to collaborate with different departments.What you are expected to do :
Financial Management & Accounting
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts for the organization and its entities.Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), ensuring timely payments and collections.Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.Assist in budgeting and financial forecasting for programs, satellite offices, and events.Track and allocate expenses for fundraising events, weekly forums, and operational costs.Fundraising & Grant Accounting
Track donations and sponsorships from fundraising events, ensuring proper classification.Prepare financial reports for grantors, donors, and funders.Ensure proper use and allocation of restricted and unrestricted funds.Event & Program Financial Oversight
Develop and monitor budgets for three major fundraising events.Handle vendor payments, sponsorship transactions, and event-related expenses.Reconcile revenue and expenses after each event, preparing financial summaries.Support weekly forum financial logistics, including speaker payments, venue costs, and travel reimbursements.Compliance & Auditing
Maintain accurate records for audits and financial reviews.Support compliance with IRS nonprofit reporting, including 990 filings.Assist in preparing documentation for external audits or grant reviews.General Operations & Coordination
Work with satellite offices to support fundraising event and fund allocation.Communicate with leadership and program teams about financial status and budget constraints.Support financial training for staff to ensure proper documentation and compliance.Other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements :
