Job summary : Constellium Automotive Structures & Industries is a strong partner for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) supporting not only final components but also full-service solutions. The product development team will work closely with the customer on design and development activities for projects. The Simulation Design Engineer will be based out of the Plymouth Michigan location with some work-from-home flexibility. The role will report to the Head of Product Development NA. The main focus of this role will be to support different OEMs located in the US such as Ford GM etc. from a simulation CAE point of view on the acquisition of new projects and on the design and development for extruded aluminum alloys products solutions with focus on crash-management-structures battery-enclosures BIW structures etc.

Duties : Support different original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) located in US such as Ford GM etc. from a simulation computer-aided engineering (CAE) point of view on the acquisition of new projects and on the design and development for extruded aluminum alloys products solutions with focus on crash-management-structures battery-enclosures body in white (BIW) structures. Design and develop automotive products by performing CAE analysis such as impact and penetration understanding product requirements to meet government regulations; building mesh of product and interfacing components; setting up boundary conditions to define movement and forces; understanding material properties and comparing to stress / strain results to predict failures. Modify product designs and rerun CAE analysis until product meets requirements. Perform correlation of analysis with testing and understand physical part testing procedures. Simulate similar forces in CAE analysis compare CAE and testing results and modify material definitions boundary conditions and forces to match simulation and physical testing. Collaborate with other Simulation Engineers in Europe by communicating and providing input with other Simulation Engineers to ensure that everyone is consistent with procedures; sharing and learning the results of other CAE analysis to determine best practices. May work from anywhere within commuting distance; travel to the office when required.
Requirements : Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus 5 years of experience. Required skill set : CATIA CAD; LS-DYNA CAE; crash product regulations material properties stress / strain to predict product failure; and physical component and vehicle level testing. The required skills do not need to be maintained over the full term of the required experience.
