About School : The Missouri School for the Blind is a residential school catering to approximately 45+ students aged 6-21 years old.
Nurses are scheduled throughout the normal school year, and the school operates year-round. We are seeking a candidate for a long-term placement.
Travel Rule : Only consider local candidates - (no relocation or per diems)
Start Date : July 7, 2024, ongoing through the 2024-2025 school year and beyond
Job Description :
The Missouri School for the Blind is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our healthcare team.
As an LPN at our school, you will play a vital role in providing quality healthcare services to our students with special needs.
Responsibilities :
- Provide direct nursing care and medical support to students with various physical and developmental disabilities.
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Monitor students' health status and response to treatments, reporting any changes or concerns to the Registered Nurse (RN) or medical director.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including bathing, feeding, toileting, and mobility as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for students.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documentation, and reports in compliance with school policies and regulatory requirements.
- Educate students, families, and staff on health-related topics, including medication management, infection control, and safety procedures.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and staff training sessions as required.
- Adhere to professional standards of nursing practice and ethical principles in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Nurse Supervisor or school administration.
Requirements :
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Missouri.
- Experience working with children, young adults, and individuals with special needs preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
- Flexibility to work Sunday through Thursday, from 3 : 00 PM to 11 : 30 PM, with an unpaid 30-minute meal break.
- Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with disabilities.
- Valid CPR certification required.
