Position is open until filled. Airport Authority will provide training, including obtaining a CDL. CDL must be obtained within 6-months of hire.
Position requires variable shifts during winter operations, night work, holiday work, shift work and overtime work as needed.
Full Salary Range : $59,965 - $72,655 (Additional $2.00 per hour premium for night shift available)
Under general supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supply Chain Supervisor, perform major and minor mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on various kinds of gasoline and diesel powered equipment; and perform related work as required.
Essential Job Functions :
- Inspects, maintains and repairs varied automotive and heavy equipment such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, fork lifts, front end loaders, graders, sweepers, runway sweepers, runway snow blowers, snow plows, wheel loaders, bulldozers, lawn mowing equipment, compressors and associated equipment;
- Overhauls, repairs or replaces engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, brake and driveline components;
- Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical and computer-related problems on vehicles and equipment;
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance, servicing and inspections of vehicles and equipment;
- Ability to use and maintain computerized fleet management program to track vehicle and equipment maintenance;
- Makes service calls on equipment to perform emergency repairs;
- Conducts road tests on equipment;
- Maintains equipment in clean and orderly condition;
- May perform welding, brazing, cutting, or other automotive shop work;
- Operate a variety of snow and ice control equipment;
- Performs manual work;
- Performs other duties, as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials used in the maintenance and repair of light and heavy automotive, construction and airport snow removal equipment;Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials used in mechanical trades;Knowledge of safety hazards and relevant safety precautions;Knowledge of the theory, care and operation of gasoline and diesel engines;Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical troubles, determine and perform appropriate maintenance, repair or replacement work;Ability to keep detailed maintenance records;Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs;Knowledge and ability to use computers and fleet management software;Knowledge of traffic regulations as they apply to the safe operation of motorized construction and maintenance equipment;Ability to operate heavy-sized construction and maintenance equipment;Ability to perform heavy manual work;Ability to work in severe weather conditions;Ability to work without close supervision, make independent decisions, follow instructions and accept constructive criticism;Ability to work effectively with other employees and supervisory staff;Ability to communicate using two-way radio;Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers;Ability to reorganize daily work schedule depending on staffing and / or activity in area;Ability to be safety conscious at all times regarding physical activity (lifting and moving items);Mental ability to address potential adverse or negative situations that may arise from time to time;Must be dependable, reliable and have a previous history of good attendance and punctuality;Must be able to attend staff meetings and training meetings as required;Knowledge of and ability to operate ladders and lifts.Acceptable Experience, Training and Other Qualifications :
Five years of experience in the repair of heavy truck, off-road construction and maintenance equipment, including a substantial emphasis on diesel engines and vehicular hydraulic and electrical systems, or a vocational diploma as a diesel and heavy equipment technician, or a two (2) year associate degree in diesel equipment technology.License or Other Requirements
Must be available and willing to work nights, holidays and weekends during snow and other airport emergencies;Successful post-employment physical and drug test;Successful background investigation to obtain unescorted airport identification / access privileges;Possession of a valid state of Iowa Class B CDL vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 6-months of hire;Random drug and alcohol testing required.Essential Physical Abilities
