Position Summary
The Senior Laser Design Engineer reports to the Senior Director of Design Engineering and will be a part of NeoPhotonics Global R&D team, working closely with our development centers located in San Jose, CA.
The Senior Laser Design Engineer is responsible for maintaining and developing NeoPhotonics high power laser, SOA and laser array designs for both present and future products that are integrated to SiPho platforms.
In addition, the position will be responsible for analyzing and summarizing laser performance data to deepen understanding of the parameters which affect laser yield while working with the laser wafer fabrication facility to exploit opportunities for improved yield and performance.
The Senior Laser Design Engineer works collaboratively with the packaging and manufacturing groups to define laser to package inter-operability, enable efficient product development and new product introductions (NPI) to ensure efficient laser test and burn-in methods are implemented to control delivered device performance and quality.
How You’ll Make a Difference
- Maintain and develop NeoPhotonics internal DFB laser model
- Develop a laser gain model s
- Optimize the laser active region and DFB grating coupling for high power lasers.
- Work closely with the wafer growth and process facility to design experiments to optimize the design through physical analysis (SEM, AFM, SIMS, etc.
and the analysis of laser performance data
- Develop and enhance existing experimental methods for evaluating laser back reflection sensitivity.
- Maintain and develop laser designs optimized for minimum laser amplitude and phase noise.
- Provide guidance on laser integration with other InP chip functions. Implement methods to manage laser optical feedback, and appropriate process integration techniques.
- Use statistical analysis tools such as SAS JMP to evaluate and compare laser performance, and establish the critical process and design factors which control the performance and yield.
- Document laser designs, and design validation in the company documentation control system (Agile).
- Define formally documented performance specifications for developed designs.
- Recommend test and burn in methods and document these procedures.
- Plan development projects. Define and document the project scope, the required resources ( number of wafers, number of growths, etc.
the schedule, and the test metrics which will confirm that a goal was achieved.
Travel to NeoPhotonics global sites at decision or review points and for experimental work needed to execute programs
