Position Summary
The Freight Audit and Payables Specialist is responsible for managing the full cycle of accounts payable, including carrier invoice processing, auditing freight bills, reconciling discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with client billing requirements. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
As an integral part of the Transportation Management process, the Freight Audit and Payables Specialist will ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and transparency of financial transactions that directly impact carrier relationships, client satisfaction, and overall operational excellence. Specific tasks include :
- Process a high volume of carrier invoices in a timely and accurate manner.
- Audit multi-modal freight and service provider invoices against contracted rates, load tenders, and client billing instructions to ensure accuracy.
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies in collaboration with Account Management, Operations, carrier relations, and client facing teams.
- Reconcile carrier statements and maintain a positive working relationship with all of our valued logistics service providers.
- Assist with weekly and monthly AP close processes, including accruals and account reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, client-specific requirements, and financial reporting standards.
- Support process improvement initiatives to increase AP efficiency, automation, and accuracy.
- Prioritize responding to carrier inquiries in a timely and professional manner on payment status, invoice details, and reconciliation issues.
- Collaborate closely with finance, operations, and technology teams to enhance visibility and integration of AP data into our TMS and financial systems.
Qualifications
Two to four years of accounts payable experience, ideally in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management.Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong understanding of carrier invoices, freight audit & pay processes, and transportation documentation (BOLs, PODs, rate confirmations).Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP / accounting systems; experience with TMS (Transportation Management System) platforms is a plus.Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.Ability to process and prioritize high transaction volumes and meet strict deadlines.Effective communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interact effectively across internal teams and external partners and customers.Why Join Sheer Logistics?
